It would be something similar to this one https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/designer/ . Is there any reason for our limitation? 2020-02-20 00-49-22 PSTVictor Westmann <victor.westmann@gmail.com>Windows S S Windows 10 S is a feature-limited edition of Windows 10 designed primarily for low-end devices in the education market (Pretty much a Windows 10 starter but way more limited). It has a faster initial setup and login process, and allows devices to be provisioned using a USB drive with the "Set Up School PCs" app. Windows 10 S only allows the installation of software (both Universal Windows Platform and Windows API apps) from Microsoft Store, although command line programs or shells (even from Microsoft Store) are not allowed.[7][8] System settings are locked to allow only Microsoft Edge as the default web browser with Bing as its search engine.[9] The operating system may be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro for a fee, to enable unrestricted software installation.[10][11] All Windows 10 S devices include a free one-year subscription to Minecraft: Education Edition. Critics have compared the edition to Windows RT, and have considered it to be a competitor to Chrome OS.[10][12][13][14][15] In March 2018, Microsoft announced that it would be phasing out Windows 10 S, citing confusion among manufacturers and end-users. Microsoft stated that it would replace this edition with the ability for vendors to ship their Windows 10 Home or Pro devices in "S Mode", wherein Windows defaults to only allowing applications to be installed from Microsoft Store. S Mode does not require payment in order to disable these restrictions.[16][17] Switching out of S mode is permanent, and even after switching out it is not possible to run 64-bit apps.[18] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_10_editions
2020-02-17 15-33-17 PSTVictor Westmann <victor.westmann@gmail.com>Yes. Everything that we agreed is ok. All stands the same. I was just concerned that you said that putting the table of requirements in the features, according to what you said earlier, would make it too much information at the same place. I am fine with that. For the features page we can try to have a short version of it, with the most important features, and then, maybe, work on a long and detailed version of the features page. Not being able to use icons is sad... but thats fine! As long as the info is there.

2020-02-19 14-36-33 PSTVictor Westmann <victor.westmann@gmail.com>You did? Wow! Congrats! How many authors were there?
2020-02-25 23-21-55 PSTVictor Westmann <victor.westmann@gmail.com>look at this quote from this book: *Prevent Territoriality* _Watch out for participants who try to stake out exclusive ownership of certain areas of the project, and who seem to want to do all the work in those areas, to the extent of aggressively taking over work that others start. Such behavior may even seem healthy at first. After all, on the surface it looks like the person is taking on more responsibility, and showing increased activity within a given area. But in the long run, it is destructive. When people sense a "no trespassing" sign, they stay away. This results in reduced review in that area, and greater fragility, because the lone developer becomes a single point of failure. Worse, it fractures the cooperative, egalitarian spirit of the project. The theory should always be that any developer is welcome to help out on any task at any time. Of course, in practice things work a bit differently: people do have areas where they are more and less influential, and non-experts frequently defer to experts in certain domains of the project. But the key is that this is all voluntary: informal authority is granted based on competence and proven judgement, but it should never be actively taken. Even if the person desiring the authority really is competent, it is still crucial that she hold that authority informally, through the consensus of the group, that the exact boundaries of the authority remain fuzzy and subjective, and that the authority never cause her to exclude others from working in that area._ _Rejecting or editing someone's work for technical reasons is an entirely different matter, of course. There, the decisive factor is the content of the work, not who happened to act as gatekeeper. It may be that the same person happens to do most of the reviewing for a given area, but as long as he never tries to prevent someone else from doing that work too, things are probably okay._ Source: https://producingoss.com/en/producingoss.html#praise-and-criticism

2020-02-24 10-01-31 PSTVictor Westmann <victor.westmann@gmail.com>Hi Brynn. How are you? How are things going?
2020-02-17 15-45-22 PSTVictor Westmann <victor.westmann@gmail.com>If it is accepted in general, we will continue working on it. If Inkscape team members complain/scream about this table we shot it down quickly.
2020-02-19 21-04-40 PSTVictor Westmann <victor.westmann@gmail.com>Instead of Adobe Illustrator, we can put Adobe Illustrator CC 2020?
2020-02-19 20-58-04 PSTVictor Westmann <victor.westmann@gmail.com>Adobe Illustrator price I was able to get in USD. So this one is fine. But for CorelDRAW and Affinity Designer maybe I will need your help to get the prices in USD.

2020-02-19 14-42-12 PSTVictor Westmann <victor.westmann@gmail.com>it seems to me that using a table width is HTML4 and not HTML 5. Do we really need to have table width?

You know why? Because it is implicit we compete with these other programs. In the same level. And this is not an exaggeration by any means.

2020-02-17 15-37-06 PSTVictor Westmann <victor.westmann@gmail.com>About the requirement table all remains the same. About the competitor analysis I will brush it a little bit more today.
2020-02-19 14-39-08 PSTVictor Westmann <victor.westmann@gmail.com>I can try to help find a way to find this if you would need/like my help.
2020-02-24 10-42-02 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>No, it's not that they're resistant to new ideas. I haven't figured out exactly what it is yet though. But it would help if someone would answer my question in the website chatroom, about what is this value that they want to uphold. I suspect that certain people (Martin the ring leader) want the website to be this shining example of a free software utopia. And somehow (I don't know how yet) this table would violate that. I'm also about ready to take a break. I keep trying to make the website more friendly to users, but for some reason, they don't like it. I have not figured out exactly why yet. I really don't get the resistance to this table. The reaction is totally out of proportion. It's a complete mystery to me. And I don't know what to do, until someone explains why. If no one answers at all this week, I'll probably drop out. But I hope they care enough to answer.
2020-02-19 14-38-32 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>I'm in a forum right now trying to find code to set a column width. I have a bunch of code from a long time ago, but I can't find the column width.

2020-02-20 00-40-28 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Wow, that must be something from the MS store! whoever put Inkscape in the MS store must have filled that out. I'm juat guessing. This is the first time I've ever been to MS sstore.
2020-02-17 15-38-55 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>There might be some way to use them. I'm just not sure exactly what you had in mind. On the Affinity page, I only saw one section that had a similar kind of icons. So we can't use them like that....well.....possibly, I guess. Is that what you meant, in the Built For Your Workflow section of the page? I can think of some ways to use them. Re Waterfall and Agile, you mean ways of editing, rather than formats for the tables?
2020-02-19 20-53-59 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>If you give me the links, I can probably get them in US $

2020-02-15 19-49-32 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Ok, just show me a mockup of the table and where you want the icons. I don't know for a fact if we can use them in the way that you might be thinking. For example, the table would probably look something like this one, on the website. https://inkscape.org/contribute/to-do-list/ We could put some icons in there, but there's not a lot of flexibility.
2020-02-19 17-03-03 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Could you give me an icon that might work for Price and another that might work for License, and I can play with how we can use them. The size needs to be whatever the regular text size is on the website. Or I guess if it's vector, I can resize it myself.
2020-02-19 22-08-35 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Does Illustrator, Corel or Affinity run on Linux or BSD? Or should I leave those blank?
2020-02-19 14-14-17 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Ok, I finished contacting the extension authors. I've had a look at the tables feature now. It's very rudimentary! But there's also an option to use html. So at the moment, I'm trying to re-learn how to code tables in html. I might be able to do something better than just the default. We'll see. It's also possible the site does not allow certain code. But we'll see.
2020-02-19 20-35-54 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Oh, there's a lot still missing. What you see in the screenshot is all that I've done yet.
2020-02-19 21-20-16 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>weird website. It's the same price as you found for canada. They just gave me a link to a store subdomain, but when I click the link, I lost the chat session. But at least I got the prices first!

2020-02-19 14-37-27 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>I didn't count. But probably around 300. Maybe a little more.
2020-02-24 17-17-18 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>I'm starting to think there is not going to be an explanation. Martin contacted me about something else today, but didn't mention that. I guess I'll just delete those pages. Although we could still work on it, and put some graphics on it and make it better -- I'm not feeling especially generous right now. So it will just have to wait for someone else to gather some courage.
2020-02-19 17-32-30 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>comptable2.png (https://chat.inkscape.org/file-upload/jg7uJPuYip3CHsZsP/comptable2.png)
2020-02-17 14-20-09 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>I'm not sure about making the current Features page longer. I was thinking that if we add in the 2 tables with the competitors and the minimum req, it would make it too long. I was thinking we might have to pare down what's on the page currently. But I'm flexible with that. Whatever we do will need to be reviewed by others (whoever cares to review it). So maybe no one will care if it's longer? My past experience says people tend to like shorter pages, but it can't hurt to try it. I'm not sure at this moment, but I'm hoping when I get in there and have a look at it, there might be some more options for tables. Or if I can find out about an interactive image, that might turn out to be a possibliity. If it is a possibility, the Features page would be a good test run for other pages. But don't get your hopes up too much. I have a feeling if it was possible, we would already be doing it on some pages. I'm not familiar with other graphics programs. So that would be all up to you, about which programs are compared and which aren't.
2020-02-20 11-44-47 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Too small?
2020-02-19 17-04-08 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Also, it's probably better to use US prices, if you could get those?
2020-02-26 06-11-40 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>You have my email if you want to contact me. But I won't be around the Inkscape project for a good long while.
2020-02-17 17-00-23 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Actually, if we showed a proposed new page right now....we should probably wait to do that until after 1.0 is released. I've been told not to contact developers at all right now, apparently because they are so busy.
2020-02-19 14-45-36 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Yeah, kind of. But i'll find out shortly.

2020-02-19 20-01-44 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Actually, if you could fill in the rest of the table, I can probably finish fairly quickly.
2020-02-19 21-10-25 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>That's the page I"m on, that in the screenshot.
2020-02-19 21-14-06 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Same thing. this is typical. I'm going to try to open a live chat.
2020-02-20 13-34-22 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>@victorwestmann don't give up so fast. We might be changing their minds.
2020-02-17 16-37-37 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>No, I don't mind if you add more to the competitor table. I didn't think we were finished with it. If you don't mind, could you use the same features we already agreed on, And then below that, add the new ones that you want. Then my poor old brain won't be confused. And once I see them, we can organize them as needed. I think we probably have close to 10 already? I'm happy with whatever you decide for the other programs. As long as you can gather the info that's needed. I suggest we don't show the table by itself to the rest of the community. I suggest we put it on the page with our best effort. When they see it as a proposed change to the website, they will pay attention. If we just show they table, they will just say, set it up how you want it on the website, and then show us again. In some ways, this is a very bottom line kind of community! Plus, half or more of the website team is trying to get 1.0 ready. So the less time we ask for right now, the better. I mean, I'm talking about the final table that we would put on the website, and need the approval of the website team. But if you want to show it to others, to get more input, before we finalize it for the website, go ahead. Regarding waterfall and agile. With just you and I, we can be totally agile. Or if you want to bring more heads into it, invite them in! As far as when we put it on the website, it still is kind of agile, because there are a lot of website editors. When we show it as a proposed new page, people might want changes. And maybe someone will not see the proposed page, and after its published they will see it, and edit something. Nothing is ever really set in stone, in this kind of community. Hold on, let me look at it.
2020-02-19 21-52-03 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Ok
2020-02-26 06-10-34 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>comptable.txt (https://chat.inkscape.org/file-upload/WmENtQrkn3jMe4uR5/comptable.txt)
2020-02-19 14-43-31 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Otherwise, the column conforms to the text inside. But I want extra white space, to make it look nicer.
2020-02-19 14-39-08 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>No, no.
2019-12-10 14-24-53 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Hi. I just answered in bug migration channel.
2020-02-19 15-08-20 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>I think I got it. I have a screenshot to show you what I have for a start. Not sure is I can attache it here? I'll try. That's the bottom of Features page and top of table.
2020-02-19 21-00-58 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Maybe use a footnote?
2020-02-17 17-27-09 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Ok. At the moment, I'm trying to finish up another project (notifying 3rd party extension authors that their extension probably won't work with 1.0, so they can hopefully fix them). Only about 40 out of 300 left! But as soon as I finish that, I'll start working on Features page.
2020-02-26 06-10-09 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>I already deleted the pages, but I think I saved the table itself as html. Let's see.... yes, I have it. It's pretty small, I guess I could attach here? It's a TXT file. I'll try to attach it next. I think territorialism is probably part of what happened. But mostly it looks like they just didn't give us enough time. They just made a snap judgement without seeing what was possible. So I think that's just too bad for Inkscape, and it will be a long time, if I ever come back and particpate.
2020-02-17 13-20-41 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Well no, I didn't have any idea what you had in mind. Of course there are people in the community who know how to write html to create a page like that. But you've seen the Inkscape website. For the most part, that's our limit. It might be possible to put an interactive image on one of our pages, but we would have to consult Martin. I don't personally know how to do it. I guess it would have to be....well....I just don't know. It would have to be an image format which allows active links, or....I don't know. Let me investigate a little. There are parts of the website which I don't understand, but maybe they would allow an interactive image. I'll have a look whenever your table is ready with comparing other programs. Then we'll work on the Features page and see what we can do. But it won't be anything even remotely close to the Affinity website. That would need an entirely new website design. I agree that the current website is not appropriate for promoting a graphics program. I very much want to get more graphics onto the site. And putting more graphics is not out of the question. But a page like Affinity is out of the question - at least for now. There has been some talk (although I haven't heard much lately) about making a responsive design. This stupid fixed width website is a pile of crap, in my opinion. But I haven't heard any talk about it in a while. Everyone is busy trying to get 1.0 released right now. It would really be a bad time to bring up a new website design.
2020-02-17 15-30-56 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>I thought you said you wanted it on Features page? I thought Download page would be better, because that's where I would look for it. But I'm ok with Features though. I don't think About page would work. Because look at the kind of info that's on the About page currently. It's nothing about systems or features or anything very specific at all. It's all very general and introductory info. It wouldn't fit there. I don't know what Agile or Waterfall means, reagarding tables. You'll have to show me. Which table you want small and then grow? For min req, I thought we agreed on it, how it is -- the one I attached in the forum? I thought we agreed on that, and that's what we were going to use.
2020-02-20 13-36-32 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Yeah, when Martin doesn't like something, he starts spouting all this technically advanced language to try and confuse us ordinary users. Makes me raving mad!
2020-02-17 16-57-46 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Is it going to take you longer time to get the rest of the info that you want?
2020-02-13 19-06-35 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Do I need to be a member of twitter to see their response? Or did they just not answer yet?
2020-02-19 20-34-17 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Oh, well that makes it easy then!
2020-02-19 14-42-50 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Table width will be 100%. I need column width.
2020-02-17 16-48-22 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>I don't know if it will work to paste this in here. It's the list from the last email we talked about this. It has the features organized a little better. For example, Community Driven, Respects Your Freedom, Allows to Study Source, all are different facets of open source development. So we should combine them somehow. Let's see if this list will paste in here: >> Price >> License >> Free and Open Source (Community driven?, Respects your freedom?, also includes Allows you to study source code of the program) (all that in a footnote?) >> Platforms Offered (add Run from thumbdrive?)? >> Written In >> File Formats Supported (approx number of formats, not the list of formats) >> Strictly Conforms to SVG Standards)(with link to the standards page) >>>> Native SVG file format? >>>> SVG/XML Editor >> Languages available >> Commandline and Scripting Support >> Needs internet connection? >> CMYK features? >> Live Path Effects >> Flowed Text >> AutoTrace (raster to vector) Wow, does Inkscape really offer over 50 languages? I think it tries to, but I don't think it succeeds. We should maybe ask Maren what would be a good number to put there. Or maybe say "up to 50" ??
2020-02-19 14-40-27 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>But if you remember the code, that would be a shortcut
2020-02-19 14-39-45 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>I'm using w3schools site to refresh my memory, but can't find the code for column width. So I went to their forum to ask.
2020-02-20 14-17-13 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>You're welcome. I'l catch back up tomorrow.
2020-02-19 21-03-00 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Yeah, that blank row is for iPad. I just need to know which programs can work on iPad.

2020-02-19 20-04-54 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Do you have any idea who made the Features page as it is now? It might help to chat with them, in case we need to remove part of it, to make room.
2020-02-19 21-57-23 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Unless I take out the word "version" it's too long for all those numbers. Which way do you think is better?
2020-02-20 00-42-06 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>although it does imply that you have to have nothing less than Windows 10 to run Inkscape.... Not sure about that, since I'm on Windows 7 !!
2020-02-17 16-56-26 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Regarding can we publish it. We can't publish anything without showing it as a proposed new page, and then not getting any complaints.
2020-02-20 08-18-04 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>new screenshot - first draft

2020-02-19 21-49-49 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>So I should call it "CC 2020"?
2020-02-19 22-15-42 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>REally? Wow!
2020-02-19 21-50-41 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Couldn't find for AFfinity either.
2020-02-19 17-29-26 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Also, need number of file formats supported.
2020-02-20 11-50-22 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>Not all data is there. There are still some missing parts
2020-02-17 16-56-37 PSTbrynn <brynn@frii.com>You want it on the Features page, right?
