2020-04-05 01-04-19 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it>Guten morgen, Patrick!...when you get a free moment, could you have a look at https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1801694 and tell me what's the situation? As far as I can see "Pop out of group" works...the only things that don't are as Tyler Durden says: CTRL-click not directly on the group and manipulation from the XML Editor (seems to leave a reference inside the group). But since you mention https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/merge_requests/419 I'm not sure if I should migrate or not. Thanks!
2020-04-03 10-24-29 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it>You're absolutely right, the problem really isn't one of Inkscape's but how the underlying OS handles Open/Save/Save As situations
2020-04-03 12-14-11 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it>Thanks for your input...I'll try to keep the "search and destroy" to a minimum!
2020-04-03 10-23-43 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it>Hello, Patrick! Sorry to disturb you but I didn't think it proper to continue/finish our conversation over on GitLab (https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/-/issues/2146)...
2020-09-12 21-38-38 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it>And if even so, the LaunchPad submitter can always reopen on GitLab. That doesn't necessarily give me license to close bugs "willy-nilly" but ones I can't replicate will be dealt with. Thanks again.
2020-04-03 11-19-12 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it>Nein, sorry...Englisch
2020-04-03 10-25-33 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it>Regarding closing, that's your call.
2020-04-03 12-11-16 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it> The avatar is from GNUStep's Language Preferences! I always liked it, so...
2020-09-12 13-46-31 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it>Thank you very much. :+1: Since you confirmed my suspicions this is an edge-case issue and I could find no problems with either file (they're identical except for object names), I'll close it. If the submitter wishes he can reopen on GitLab.
2020-04-03 10-26-28 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it>If it were up to me, returning to "border-cases" and wishlist, I'd search and destroy! But I imagine the Inkscape team doesn't want that either!
2020-09-12 12-41-36 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it>CIao, Patrick, so sorry to disturb you with this but could you please have a look at https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1716724 when you get a moment? I tested in 1.1-dev and could see no problems opening nor in the XML. Is it possible I'm missing something? Otherwise, I'll just close with a "Can't replicate". Thank you so much.
2020-09-12 21-34-03 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it>Absolutely. But as I said, I tested with latest and it appeared to work, so...
2020-04-03 10-25-15 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it>Again, I was just playing Devil's Advocate and I just migrated the bug report, not because it was close to my heart or anything
2020-04-03 12-13-35 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it>And again, regarding this issue, i feel that's more the responsibility of the OS
2020-04-05 04-09-39 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it>so....migrate!
2020-04-03 12-13-01 PDTgreytomorrow <gtomorrow@libero.it>As far as closing this issue at hand (and others) I'm not adverse to the idea...I personally like to think a project has to focus on what's essential...obviously everyone and their dog has different ideas as to what essential though
2020-04-05 03-36-34 PDTPatrick <eduard.braun2@gmx.de>Current status is "no progress". Unfortunately the author of the MR did not address the open issues, so it needs someone to properly investigate this. As this never was a priority for me I didn't fell like doing the MR author's work for them...
2020-04-03 11-31-06 PDTPatrick <eduard.braun2@gmx.de>Personally I'm probably the opposite of you (I'd prefer to keep around every bug and feature request even when they're only slightly reasonable in order not to putt anybody off). But it's not a long-term viable solution, and I also like to keep my trackers clean, so I try to close early if it seems reasonable these days.
2020-04-03 10-36-20 PDTPatrick <eduard.braun2@gmx.de>Deutsch?
2020-09-12 13-37-24 PDTPatrick <eduard.braun2@gmx.de>I've not retested in a new version yet - maybe later.
2020-04-03 11-26-14 PDTPatrick <eduard.braun2@gmx.de>Oh OK. How'd you get a "was?" avatar then? ;-)
2020-04-05 04-15-32 PDTPatrick <eduard.braun2@gmx.de>well, it's unfixed, so... yes.
2020-09-12 13-36-37 PDTPatrick <eduard.braun2@gmx.de>It's a pretty arcane issue and mostly Photoshop is to blame for writing a file with questionable content like this, but Inkscape could be doing something wrong to break the file after all. Basically it needs further investigation, but the issue is so rare and only occurs in combination with commercial software, so priority to investigate this is very low...
2020-09-12 15-11-08 PDTPatrick <eduard.braun2@gmx.de>Problem seems to be resolved indeed in current master. Note that edge-cases are valid bugs after all - important is that the issues are actually fixed.
2020-04-03 11-28-50 PDTPatrick <eduard.braun2@gmx.de>As for closing, I don't want that to be my call. It should be the call of everybody, that's why I added my opinion. If others agree (at least to some degree) then we can close the issue in good conscience. However my opinions could diverge from others, in which case I don't want to close this prematurely.
