2019-12-23 18-10-37 PSTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>I actually upgraded the right angled path tool this year. The real tricks will come after the first steps when it comes to improving the auto router.

2020-10-08 05-35-48 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>I'm sure you can imagine that it's hard to guess exactly how long it might take. If say 3 other companies all join up and want the same thing, this is going to go much faster than say if it's just yourselves. So speed isn't dependent on just what yourselves do but somewhat on what everyone wants together.

2020-06-23 12-36-57 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>I'll rebase the work today and try and get it into master. I take it you may need some snapping on the node hitting?
2020-06-26 12-56-13 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Absolutely.
2020-04-28 08-45-46 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>
2020-06-26 00-49-52 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>I decided on squares instead of X for the connectors. Actually slightly bigger than the center point.
2020-10-09 11-43-16 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>It's good, does outlook just do the calendar or is it the video chat too?
2020-06-28 07-47-42 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>It's also merged. So this work will be in inkscape 1.1

2019-12-24 09-06-29 PSTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Live path effects could be a way to do it, although the main developer of most of the LPEs is currently burned out. That has me be a bit cautious. Although removing the current connector tool completely would be interesting, I wonder if people would get mad.

2020-05-28 02-32-44 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>The MR is mostly just internal Inkscape stuff, if you waited for that it could be another 3 years before you see the feature (and I see the end of the contract) better to get you a custom build you can test out and then be happy with.
2020-11-18 08-10-14 PSTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Right, I have jabiertxof (spain) on my side who can help out getting some of this delivered, we'll have to make sure we get the deliverables in order.

2020-05-15 07-44-32 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>The idea is that in this framework the connectors would gain a lot from being "instantly" updated and much of the code for handling the line -redrawing would be taken care of.

2020-05-28 02-40-23 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com> do test the routing, I have a feeling in my waters it might be picking the wrong angle to start.
2020-09-14 07-52-29 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Assuming success; Do you think you and your company would be ok with a video interview, sort of going through what you're contracting for and how you were able to grapple with this kind of open source type contracting situation.
2020-11-18 08-15-20 PSTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Understood
2020-09-28 03-22-52 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>That's somewhat expected. Considering the depth of the request, do you have a full specification?
2020-07-14 15-32-25 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>That sounds positive.
2020-06-26 00-50-02 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>But I think you'll like the movement fix.
2020-05-05 11-32-17 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>We have no trust network and you'll notice I've not asked for references (and nor have yourselves ;-))

2020-05-28 03-57-40 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Turns out there are windows builds
2020-10-07 03-17-34 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>The second is your org could organise a public fund raiser. Your goals are known, your budget is known and there are multiple companies that could pool their money into a single contract. This is fairly radical though as not many traditional companies have run kickstarters :-D
2020-10-07 03-14-07 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>So often the way  is this the end of the road?
2021-01-04 09-53-10 PSTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>@chrispitude We're still in a waiting pattern so far. (although good to get the holiday season out the way)
2021-01-08 10-08-43 PSTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Understood. My plan was to get back to you when we were in production mode, to make sure the details are correct. Although I'm confident enough in the big picture scope.
2021-03-25 08-06-18 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Not a sausage.
2021-03-25 08-06-44 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>We should double check the payment details, do you know how they might have sent it?
2021-03-26 08-43-16 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Indeed
2021-03-26 08-42-46 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>lol, I'm planning my schedule today. You're not the only company that decided to wait until end of march to kick off a project ;-)
2021-03-26 08-36-32 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>It's just arrived, a cheque through the mail
2021-04-17 11-17-23 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Hi Chris. I've scheduled the work for after the 1.1 release, I had to do that because of the delay in all the payment stuff. Do you guys have a set of deadlines you're working to that I can schedule into?
2021-04-17 11-18-04 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>I don't know if the videos I make would be helpful, I'm going to be reporting the work in those too. But happy to make specific updates via email, etc.
2021-04-17 11-25-13 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Great, I'll keep on the current tracks :-D I'm excited to start work on this.
2021-04-17 11-20-28 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>The release is scheduled for the week of May 1st, let me know if you need to have work started before then. If so, I'll try and reschedule as best I can.
2021-04-17 11-26-04 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Oh and is it ok if I link to and or use the company logo/name to identify the people paying for the work?
2021-04-17 11-26-10 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>(in the videos)
2021-04-17 11-51-01 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>For reference, I'd put the logo and name in the place I currently say "PoliArt" https://youtu.be/Wevm-pw8wcA?t=26
2020-07-09 14-22-53 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>🍀
2019-12-23 09-41-31 PSTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>The original design used a group and inside the group it had single point paths, these paths would create single point connections so long as the connector tool dug into the group.
2020-12-01 09-39-58 PSTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>I can put it in the description of the work, but not the "who" part. Because Inkscape LLC is a 501.3c charity and paying me is not paying/donating to that etc. etc.
2020-05-05 10-33-32 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>We should sign a short agreement to formalise it and pay whatever the upfront is. Then I work on it.
2020-03-29 15-36-28 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>So a donation to Inkscape (the charity) would help in general move Inkscape forwards. But if you want specific work done, then the right thing to do is get a contractor (someone like me, but doesn't have to be me) to do the work on your behalf. This is a safer option because the project as a whole has it's own priorities and even if the contractor's work doesn't fit into Inkscape's project direction, you can still have the modified version with your own customisation. (freedom!) But hopefully it would also make it's way into Inkscape too. The best way to think of open source projects like Inkscape is as a specialised trade group. Different companies and individuals can come in and pay (or volunteer) to get specific stuff done. As example, if you want medicine, donating to to the The Red Cross is great, but won't get you medicine directly.
2020-05-04 07-49-31 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>

2020-04-28 07-45-28 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>I see it. I suspect that you need a fixed price rather than my hourly rate for this work.

2020-05-28 02-34-06 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>It's a candidate yes, but you should test it.
2020-04-28 08-41-59 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>1- yes, multiple points per object, I won't change the center anchor.

2020-05-28 02-38-17 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Oh don't worry about it. This is a small contract, I'm not going bust yet ;-)
2020-11-17 09-53-45 PSTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>"Strategic micro-investment initiative" :-D
2020-10-07 03-16-19 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>The first is, your company could become a patreon of mine for a very low cost. This wouldn't get you all work, but it would allow you to push me to fixing or implementing connector tools. This would be a "light touch" hedge. And I know a lot of management like a cheap hedge.
2020-12-15 08-58-02 PSTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Yeah we can wait. The system seems a bit corporate as they kept asking for company letter head  looks like it's on track now though

2020-06-23 06-37-34 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Morning!
2020-06-26 12-57-02 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>I'd like to sign off on this work soon. Let me know if you need help testing the branch, it should be available from the merge request pipeline.
2020-05-14 14-52-30 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>I've put together a draft merge request for the requested feature: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/merge_requests/1994
2020-06-23 10-58-56 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>That's so weird. I know the x is hard to hit, I even miss it on the video.
2020-05-28 02-32-00 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Great. So your deliverable is a windows build?
2020-10-07 03-20-27 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>May the wind be at your back!
2020-04-28 07-56-19 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>I can put together a simple first time contract for $500 to implement the connectors as seen in the video I posted (but in the new Inkscape code, and probably done better). That would be, you'd be able to hand make stencils with custom connectors. But it wouldn't include a great deal of custom user interfacing.
2019-12-23 09-38-45 PSTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>Hi Chris! Thanks for joining me here.
2020-04-28 07-38-45 PDTMartin Owens <doctormo@geek-2.com>So I've lost track of the feature you need to be honest.

2020-06-30 09-55-35 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>hopefully copying/pasting invisible thingies is not the final production solution for my team - I hope you're up to follow-up work to shine it up for production use :)
2019-12-24 05-35-17 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I see some basic LPE information here (https://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php?title=Creating_Live_Path_Effects), and this page (http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Paths-LivePathEffects.html) mentions the data storage aspect that you might be able to use.
2020-04-28 08-44-46 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>thank you!! I'll get on this now
2020-06-23 16-02-39 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>That would definitely help. I was trying to watch for visual indicator changes but I'm new to Inkscape and maybe I wasn't getting it right.
2020-05-05 11-32-51 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>we've been at the mercy of vendors like Microsoft and Adobe for so long, dealing with the same bugs for YEARS upon years
2020-04-28 07-39-23 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>oh np! it's the Visio-like connection point capability of being able to create multiple user-defined connection points on an object
2020-11-17 09-47-28 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>my management are being idiots, I'm having to fight for $600/year
2019-12-24 05-20-21 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>Thank you!! I've always admired Inkscape as a powerful and thoughtfully designed open-source tool. Internally, we are evaluating a change to our authoring toolchain and this motivated me to see how I could bring Inkscape into the picture.
2020-12-01 09-23-39 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>wait wait wait wait waiHURRY UP
2020-05-15 06-31-38 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>re: the LPE statement, what is the future refactoring project you mention?
2020-06-23 07-40-48 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>actually I can host a webex meeting through my company and share my desktop, might be easier
2020-11-30 08-47-47 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I'll follow up with you when I have an update on payments to spain and/or the detailed spec
2020-05-28 02-39-20 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>that's very cool
2020-11-18 08-11-54 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>then we all have a referenceable functional spec
2020-11-18 08-08-45 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I'm not sure, we'll probably need to have a short call with desktop sharing and chat about what we need from a high level
2020-12-01 09-10-44 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>It's your choice, we just need an invoice to send to purchasing that you're comfortable with. :)
2020-06-26 06-33-12 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>and the rectangular routing!!
2020-11-30 08-45-41 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I hope to update the enhancement issue to represent precisely what we need this week
2020-11-17 09-47-34 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>stay tuned.
2020-06-28 06-44-39 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>awesome, I'll go grab it! agreed on closing on this when we can
2020-12-01 09-39-06 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>is it too much to have "Inkscape" put in there somewhere?
2020-12-15 09-24-33 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>Hi Martin, I have fully described the behaviors that we need here: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/-/issues/793
2020-09-28 03-23-14 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>pretty much this: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/-/issues/793
2020-10-08 05-50-27 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>this would be in place of continued Q/A in chat
2020-11-30 08-44-11 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>maybe personal checks from me based on milestones?
2020-05-28 02-38-13 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>perfect
2020-12-01 09-40-23 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>management will just see it as "Inkscape blah blah blah"
2020-05-05 11-22-58 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>it'll go out first thing tomorrow! and yes it will :)
2020-04-28 07-45-59 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>yes, and I'm afraid it's going to get me laughed out of my manager's manager's office but I need to try :)
2020-05-04 07-23-00 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>the proposal is being reviewed by my manager's manager now - I'll let you know when I have a response!
2020-04-28 07-56-02 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>DITA is an XML-based technical writing standard that has been around for 20 years, but is just (in the last 5 years) really starting to take over the technical writing industry
2020-05-15 06-29-12 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>very exciting to see signs of life, even if purely developmental at this point!!
2020-05-28 02-31-42 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I have a linux box here at home, I can try it on there
2020-10-07 03-14-48 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>sorry to consume so much of your time :(
2020-05-28 02-37-04 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>oh!!! got it
2020-09-28 03-29-03 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>ok thanks :)
2020-05-05 11-23-53 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>and (2) I don't think it's enough $$$ for the work but I suspect it's something you want to see happen for the larger community
2020-11-18 08-14-20 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I am relieved!!
2020-05-28 02-38-32 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>is this your day job or just for fun?
2020-06-23 07-30-56 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>when I follow the video instructions using the windows build, my resulting symbol has the X point but the connector does not follow it
2020-09-28 03-23-39 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>it walks through the needed pieces of functionality
2020-10-08 05-16-34 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>2. At the $50 and $100 levels, is there a rough timeframe where the connection point functionality might be completed? (very rough - a few months, a few years, etc.)
2020-11-18 08-11-32 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I can always edit that issue as needed to be our contract marching orders, then we mark it fixed for the community when the contract is complete
2020-11-18 08-06-33 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>some folks recognized my name from the olden days (I've been here 20 years)

2020-05-28 02-29-44 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I'm on Windows 10 so I'll need to get something runnable for that
2020-04-28 07-37-55 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>*raises sixth cup of coffee*
2020-10-07 03-18-58 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>do you have a patreon page?
2020-10-08 05-15-26 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>1. Is there a quantitative difference between the $50 and $100 Patreon levels?
2020-10-12 07-31-11 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>the webex is just desktop sharing and a phone call
2020-12-01 09-38-17 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>thank you!!
2020-10-08 05-50-20 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>would you be willing to have a 10-minute-ish call with me and two other folks in my company who want to see Inkscape happen?
2020-05-28 02-37-57 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>thank you!! and sorry you were waiting on me
2020-10-07 03-13-32 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>soooo all the managers agreed to move forward with the contract, then their director took it to his management, and they immediately shot it down due to cost
2020-05-05 11-25-43 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>regardless, I'm happy to do what I can to convince my company to invest in making inkscape better as a technical drawing tool
2020-11-18 08-15-01 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>for now, the action is with me to update the issue to accurately reflect what's needed
2020-10-07 03-14-05 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>oh, and they told us to reduce our visio license to the bare miminum required (can someone please explain to them that visio licenses are perpetual with no maintenance and you don't "reduce" them?)
2020-05-28 02-40-23 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>is there a UI for it, or XML-level messing about?
2020-05-05 11-10-18 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>Do you want to send me something formal, or do you consider your previous email good enough? What form of payment do you prefer?
2020-11-30 08-45-50 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>ooo I'll have to check
2020-10-07 03-20-07 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>this is promising, thank you! let me see what I can do with it
2020-09-14 06-27-43 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>still waiting for approval for the $4k from way up the management chain - the big wheels turn the slowest!
2020-10-07 03-14-42 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I will keep pushing internally, I am beyond frustrated, but I can only do what I can do
2020-04-28 08-28-14 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>to clarify two details, 1- this means multiple user-defined points per object, not a single user-defined point? and 2 - by pre-created objects, is this ONLY for template shapes, or can it be used on new shapes drawn by the user in the SVG?
2020-12-01 08-58-08 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>1. Corporate will be cutting checks to you for the contract work. They can't pay another person (in another country or not), so you would need to Paypal/etc. Jabiertxof from what you receive.
2020-04-28 07-34-54 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>Before I broach this topic with my management, can you give me an idea of the amount I'd need to ask for - let's say, if I was going to ask you to implement this?
2020-11-17 09-50-38 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>yep, they're laser-focused on operating margins and stock price
2020-12-01 09-24-46 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>yes, let me get the name and full address, hang on
2020-12-15 08-27-03 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>My manager says it might take some time to add you as a vendor, and wanted to know if you preferred earlier payment via corporate credit card through Venmo or Cashapp?
2020-04-28 08-26-27 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>thank you! I will get this going today
2020-10-07 03-20-37 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>amen to that
2020-12-15 09-25-44 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>Do you want me to try, or would you rather implement this according to how you feel it best integrates into the Inkscape authoring environment and underlying code structure?
2020-06-23 06-37-08 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>sorry I'm slammed, gonna work on this right now.
2020-11-30 08-01-43 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>is it possible to pay you via corporate credit card?
2020-11-18 08-06-14 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>so apparently they approved the $4000 after my displeasure worked its way up through management
2020-04-28 08-43-20 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>XML editing is how I'll have to do it for my own template shapes?
2020-05-28 02-29-12 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I don't know but I will try! Sorry, we're in the middle of a release and things are nuts here.
2020-06-23 08-46-49 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>well that stinks, there's two linux build artifacts listed under the pull request, and they both fail when I attempt to run them
2020-10-07 03-17-01 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>it also might make them feel like they've negotiated for a better value
2020-12-01 09-03-34 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>So what I need is an invoice for the $4000. It does not need to be detailed with timelines and such, but just to cover ourselves, Here is how you originally allocated it in July: * Creator - $1,500 * Multi-jog - $1,000 * Humps (line avoid deformations) - $1,500
2020-10-08 05-14-36 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>some questions from my management:
2020-06-26 06-34-06 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>have you seen this before? pretty impressive for this type of work: https://app.diagrams.net/
2020-12-15 09-25-10 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I am not familiar enough with Inkscape to know how to "fit" this into the existing Inkscape UI
2020-12-01 09-40-38 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>just want to make sure the one word they're looking for is there
2020-05-28 02-33-43 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>is the PR above the final deliverable code state for the contract?
2020-04-28 08-28-32 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>(I don't know Inkscape's template/object features well enough to know this intuitively)
2020-04-28 07-42-36 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>with a link to a detailed enhancement request: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/-/issues/793
2020-04-28 08-43-41 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>(this is okay for a first installment, I'm rolling all this out and I'm able to do that)
2020-11-17 09-52-59 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I'm spending some of my hard-earned reputation to get my wish
2020-04-28 07-42-14 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>link here: https://inkscape.org/forums/beyond/does-anyone-else-want-visio-like-connection-point-functionality/
2019-12-23 17-19-44 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I will need to learn how Inkscape handles right-angle connectors so I can be more helpful here.
2020-05-28 02-35-47 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>so clone the PR branch and follow the instructions?
2020-06-23 16-06-04 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>it's no problem, you've waited on me for quite a bit!
2020-05-28 02-39-59 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>OH - how do I create symbols with multiple connection points?
2019-12-24 05-22-47 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>In the Attach Path LPE video (https://framadrive.org/s/MYoPQq2zPyUcbq0), the internal functionality of attaching a path to shape nodes is promising, but the user interface of creating a path then attaching it with copy/click gymnastics is not workable. In addition, I can't get the connector to stay right-angled when I move the shape around; the ends insist on doing curvy things. Nevertheless, is this LPE infrastructure one that we can use to store and recalculate the connectors?
2020-03-29 07-22-30 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>if I'm able to get my manager to approve a donation of some amount, would that help move this feature forward?
2020-05-28 02-32-05 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>yes
2020-12-15 08-59-07 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>awesome
2020-05-28 02-34-56 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>okay, so I'll try to figure out how to build and test it on linux and provide you feedback
2020-06-23 08-56-08 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>which makes no sense since it's an AppImage and should have all dependencies
2020-12-15 08-27-28 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>My gut tells me that you'd rather wait and get a full-price check, rather than a credit card payment with a percentage fee removed, but I figured I'd check
2020-05-07 08-59-51 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>check goes out today, darn kids stole my pen from my home office and it took me two days to find it!
2020-07-14 15-21-04 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>presentation went well today, he asked me to make business cost/benefit/risk slides and present to the next level up, that will happen next week
2020-11-17 09-49-22 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I'd be more than happy to do so!
2020-12-01 08-58-52 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>2. They have asked to be invoiced in the next 1-2 days, so they can pull it into this fiscal year's budget (which is very good, that leaves the door open next year for more work!).
2020-10-09 11-06-00 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>you should have an Outlook proposal at doctormo@geek-2.com, in case it does
2020-05-05 11-35-42 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>thanks for helping to make this happen
2020-12-01 08-57-20 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>Hi Martin! I have some news...
2020-12-01 09-51-54 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>perfect!
2021-01-08 10-06-44 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>ok cool! just want to make sure the spec is clear, no further detail needed, etc.
2021-03-03 07-36-49 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>hoping you get a check soon!
2021-03-25 06-02-12 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>Please tell me you've received payment by now?
2021-03-25 15-54-24 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I will find out.
2021-03-26 08-43-08 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>When it rains, it pours??
2021-03-26 08-39-15 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>Oh hooray!! I was just about to go off on a rant. :)
2021-03-26 08-39-31 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>Think you can have it done by Monday?
2021-03-26 08-39-43 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>(I kid, I kid!)
2021-04-17 11-00-16 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>My boss said I need to start reporting status back to management.
2021-04-17 11-00-20 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>So how does this work? :)
2021-04-17 11-23-46 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I can provide links to them, and also summarize from a high level
2021-04-17 11-23-58 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>After May 1 is totally fine
2021-04-17 11-23-21 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>No set deadlines on our end
2021-04-17 11-23-33 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>In fact, the videos would be perfect for my management!
2021-04-17 11-29-14 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I think so, but I will confirm
2021-04-17 11-32-01 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I'll let you know by Monday. Thank you!!
2021-04-17 11-32-42 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>This is exciting for us too! Schematic work and technical drawings could be a very significant new area for Inkscape.
2020-11-18 08-15-09 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>then we can meet to discuss
2020-10-12 07-31-14 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>we're on now
2020-09-28 03-26-51 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I'll let you know how it goes, we'll probably need to write up something more formal and I can give a draft of that if you want
2020-06-23 07-31-12 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>if I copy and paste your example symbol with the same X point, the connector successfully follows the shape
2020-05-28 02-34-06 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>if so, does it support right-angled "route" connectors or just straight connectors?
2020-04-28 07-46-41 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I would really like to see Inkscape find a place in the DITA technical writing community (not sure if you've heard of DITA before)
2020-05-28 02-36-55 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>speak slowly and use small words
2019-12-23 17-19-10 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>My expectation would be that other tools render whatever the last state of the connector was in Inkscape.
2020-06-26 06-32-58 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>oooo I really like the fast update!!
2020-04-28 07-35-39 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>My management is ridiculously and distressingly unwilling to spend money, but I might be able to make the case for it.
2021-01-04 05-28-56 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>Hi Martin! Is there anything I can do to help, or are you waiting for my company's payment to play out?
2020-04-28 08-45-47 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I'm Chris Papademetrious, Allentown PA, technical writer and semiconductor product engineer

2020-05-07 09-00-03 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>it was mixed in with their crayons, I guess I ought to buy more pens
2020-05-05 11-23-35 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>between you and me, (1) my management would not have gone for this if it were more $$$
2020-05-05 11-20-38 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I'm happy to just paypal or send a check for $100, if that works for you
2020-11-30 08-46-48 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>aww dang :)
2020-10-12 07-36-16 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>yep! just started
2020-12-01 09-40-10 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>understood, description is all that's needed
2020-09-28 03-22-15 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>sooo now I am getting pushback at the cost and the risk of not getting a fully suitable solution
2020-06-23 07-31-28 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>do you have a windows machine handy to try it?
2019-12-23 17-18-17 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I know almost nothing about Inkscape, so it's hard for me to suggest much. From what I understand, this LPE infrastructure allows you to store the LPE data in the Inkscape namespace where it's *not* a part of the SVG drawing itself, but then Inkscape renders the resulting path in the SVG drawing. We will eventually need to support connections with one or more 90-degree turns; does this dictate the use of a particular data structure from the beginning?
2020-05-05 11-34-15 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>exactly! so I think this will be a pretty good experience
2019-12-23 06-42-18 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>The fact that Inkscape stores its data within the SVG file in its own namespace is a tremendous plus for technical drawing. Technical content is invariably under strict revision control, and having the source drawing document also be the output image file is highly valuable.
2020-12-01 09-10-11 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>We can also note one or more of the functionality pieces from the enhancement request (https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/-/issues/793)
2020-05-05 11-11-55 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>you tell me how you want it to work, this is my first time :)
2020-09-28 03-24-24 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I might be able to assuage that concern with a pay-as-we-go contract for each piece
2020-05-05 10-04-04 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>Good news - I obtained approval! How do we proceed?
2020-06-23 07-40-52 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I'll try the linux build
2020-05-28 02-31-02 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>oh okay!! I figured the PR was going through some elaborate review process and I'll just need to let it happen
2020-05-28 02-42-05 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>yes please :(
2020-11-18 08-06-40 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>which means now we have to deliver :)
2020-04-28 08-00-08 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>Yes please, could you do that? You can email it to chrispy@synopsys.com and I'll pitch it to my management.
2020-11-17 09-55-20 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>sigh.
2020-05-05 11-32-23 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I'm also hoping it encourages the mindset for them to invest in improvements like this
2020-06-08 07-03-18 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>hey sorry for the delay - we just had a quarterly doc release go out so I've been buried in that! I have to do some branch cleanup today (I'm the owner) and then I'll get to testing the build!
2020-10-07 03-15-23 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I'm all ears
2019-12-23 06-39-40 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>Hi Martin, it's Chris! I'm happy to see interest in Visio-like connector capability, and I'm appreciative that you're taking the time to discuss it. On my side, I will start learning about Inkscape so I better understand how it's used for technical drawings. (I'm proficient with Visio but new to Inkscape.) I think the functionality you showed in your prototype (adding connection points and connecting to them) would be quite an excellent first step, if that's not too big a piece.
2020-10-08 05-51-04 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>we would converge faster and be better informed via voice
2020-10-07 03-14-26 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>unfortunately yes, which also means the $500 they spent was pointless, but such is life
2020-05-05 11-35-56 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>and I need to stop talking to you because I've probably used up about $100 worth of your time by now :)

2020-12-15 09-26-07 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I would prefer you implement what is best, as long as the functionality pieces are all available in some form.
2019-12-23 17-22-41 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>Hah, I started reading up on right-angle connectors and look what all the comments are about!! https://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Connector_tool_tutorial
2020-05-28 02-42-20 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>otherwise you'll spend more time answering chat questions than making the video
2020-10-09 10-35-04 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>does Monday Oct 12 at 10:30am EDT work for you?
2020-11-18 08-10-53 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>np, I can spec out needed functionality and whatnot, much of it exists in the enhancement issue with animated GIFs already
2020-10-08 06-22-32 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I'll check and let you know, not today :)
2020-09-28 03-27-19 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>stay tuned...!
2020-05-28 02-37-08 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>will test and let you know :)
2020-06-30 09-54-10 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>nightly build looks great! I just sent you an email to close and get you paid
2020-12-15 08-59-18 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I'm adding some detail to the gitlab enhancement request today
2020-04-28 08-36-37 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>a third question - is it correct to characterize you as "one of the developers of Inkscape" to my management, to ease any fear of risk they might have?
2020-06-23 12-23-31 PDTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I'll give it another shot in Windows.
2020-11-17 09-49-16 PSTChris Papademetrious <chrispitude@gmail.com>I told my manager that if my company wasn't willing to invest $600 into our group's future, then why should I invest an additional 10-20 hours of my own time each week (beyond the usual 40)?
