It says " 2 objects selected of types path, group in layer 1. Click selection to toggle scale/rotation handles.

Does it say 'Text' along with some information about the font and size? And when you click on the line, it's definitely just a stroke? You haven't clicked on 'Stroke to Path' at any point?
