2019-07-17 13-24-30 PDT Martin Owens Hello 2019-07-17 13-24-36 PDT Martin Owens Finally. 2019-07-17 13-40-45 PDT Martin Owens But the website has a more generic moderation platform. It's used by the galleries and allows objects under moderation to be deleted. But it requires more than one vote. It used to take three votes, but we reduced it to two. 2019-07-17 13-55-54 PDT Martin Owens Brynn wishes to be able to do the same things in the same ways as she does on her php forum. I.e. delete users. But I can't have single moderators able to delete users, the website as a whole need to be protected. 2019-07-17 13-39-32 PDT Martin Owens That user can then not post or reply. 2019-07-17 14-03-51 PDT Martin Owens Well yes. I have no real issues with letting Brynn be an admin. But the request was to allow forum moderators, not just site moderators, have those powers. That's a big escalation. 2019-07-17 14-47-09 PDT Martin Owens Do you need me to add you as a moderator so you can see all the tools? 2019-07-17 15-20-17 PDT Martin Owens Check the admin interface and see if users is in there 2019-07-17 13-41-44 PDT Martin Owens Users themselves can be flagged for moderation by the generic system, on top of being moderated by the forum permissions system. 2019-07-17 13-39-09 PDT Martin Owens That's kind of right. The website has users, users have permissions. Some of these permissions are from group membership, while others are direct. Users can have a permission called banned from forum posting and banned from replying. Two permissions are added by a single moderator when they see spam. 2019-07-17 13-54-40 PDT Martin Owens With one flag it goes into the moderation queue. It's weighted so each moderator vote counts for 7 normal user votes. 14 points are required to act on a thing. 2019-07-17 15-20-01 PDT Martin Owens You should be good 2019-07-17 14-36-48 PDT Martin Owens Yes 2019-07-17 15-20-34 PDT Martin Owens I think the idea was that all board members would be super users. 2019-07-17 13-24-43 PDT Martin Owens 🦖 2019-07-17 14-31-19 PDT Martin Owens Part of the frustration on my side is that this is not the first time we've had a disagreement on security. There was an issue with linking to external images and other times where it's taken a lot of explaining. 2019-07-17 14-04-35 PDT Martin Owens And moderators can be anyone. I wanted us to be able to recruit new contributors for moderating without making it dangerous to have those powers. 2019-07-17 14-38-44 PDT Martin Owens It's an interesting one. Maybe I should try a document the moderation. 2019-07-17 14-43-21 PDT ScislaC Well, just so you're aware, I did offer to help with moderating the forums, but let's just say it came across that she didn't care for my offer to help. I should probably poke around and see how it feels before I suggest too many possible "fixes" for something I'm not personally very familiar with. 2019-07-17 14-32-13 PDT ScislaC Was the external images issue a separate issue from links in the gallery descriptions? 2019-07-17 14-36-48 PDT ScislaC Ahhh, I wasn't aware that there was frustration from your side, but I can definitely understand it. When it comes down to it, I trust your ability to assess our security needs. I know that in my trying to talk to her about things, it seems like it has taken numerous approaches to feel like she was actually understanding... and there are still other things I just feel she's not willing to try and see from a different perspective. 2019-07-17 13-23-19 PDT ScislaC now it shows you online... 2019-07-17 13-24-37 PDT ScislaC there we go! 2019-07-17 14-53-44 PDT ScislaC I'm honestly not sure, I have "Administration" as a menu option under my name when I log into the website... do you need to change anything or should I be good to go? 2019-07-17 13-48-55 PDT ScislaC Another side Q, when a mod flags a gallery item, what happens to it with one flag? 2019-07-17 14-12-27 PDT ScislaC Ok... so I guess the Q is if would Brynn receive it as a massive compliment if we explained that she can be a site admin because we trust her with that (knowing that realistically, she wouldn't abuse it). But people who are only forum mods can't be given that level of control for obvious reasons, including her rationale of assuming all new mods might be inexperienced n00bs. 2019-07-17 14-17-07 PDT ScislaC I will say, this is NOT an ideal solution in my mind... I don't believe we should normally make exceptions to people who complain loudly, but I do think making her life easier on this will probably make all of our lives a bit easier in the long run. 2019-07-17 13-27-00 PDT ScislaC inkscape.org is the platform and the forums are a feature/area/"group"... much like Facebook or Reddit, you can get banned from groups, but mods can't remove you from the platform, or is this a bad analogy? 2019-07-17 13-47-59 PDT ScislaC Ok, so where is Brynn's point of contention? It came across to me like she wants to be able to ban/delete users that are deemed as Spammers, not just from the forum section. Am I misunderstanding? 2019-07-17 14-37-48 PDT ScislaC While I appreciate everything that you do for the project, I do not envy your position :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: 2019-07-17 14-14-34 PDT ScislaC Her language with bryce and myself is sounding incredibly ... frustrated. I think we'd be at a loss to not have her continue in the role she has been doing for quite a while now (granted at a 3rd party site). 2019-07-17 13-25-02 PDT ScislaC Ok... so I just want to make sure my understanding is correct... 2019-07-17 14-02-06 PDT ScislaC So she is a site moderator (not just forum moderator) that thinks she should have site admin powers (even if her intentions are to be reserved in using them)? Realistically, we want those powers in as few hands as is reasonable, right? Basically, we need to protect against rogue actors. 2019-07-17 13-20-56 PDT ScislaC Hello? 2019-07-17 13-49-05 PDT ScislaC flag/vote
