I would like funding to attend two SVG working group meetings.
This sounds like an excellent idea for us to consider funding. Can you draft up a proposal (in the repository), including estimated costs and any deliverables from it (i.e. meeting reports, potential followup actions, etc.)?
- LGM
I would like funding to cover a hotel at LGM. At the moment, I plan on giving an SVG 2 update, demoing the hidden SVG 2 festures in Inkscape.
I believe that nobody has stepped up to give an Inkscape talk at LGM. Should the board be more pro-active in recruiting someone to go? It may not be obvious to most developers that they can ask the board for funding.
Good questions. How do others feel?
Personally, I think we should support with funding both presenters and (perhaps to a lesser extent) attendees who have made important contributions to Inkscape (e.g. bug triagers, documentation, translators, etc.)
- Hack session
I would like to organize a hack session focused on adding a framework to Inkscape to handle SVG 2. Inkscape needs to be able to handle converting between SVG 1.1 and SVG 2 on read-in and write-out. This should be added in a generalized way.
SVG 2 offers quite a bit of new features to Inkscape. It is important that we show an interest in implementing these features if we want them to remain in SVG 2 and if we want others to support them. This is discussed in more detail on a Wiki page for this topic:
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/SVG2
We would need to agree on a date, a place, who will/can participate, what expenses would be covered.
Here are some possible sites:
- At LGM (there is a place we can use before/after LGM).
- At a Redhat office, Boston or Brno (Ted suggested this might be
possible)
- Chez moi, outside Paris.
I really like this idea. I think we should fund it ONLY if a heavy degree of planning is done ahead of time, so-as to make maximal use of the face-to-face time.
Also, I think for this item we should really couple it to a fundraiser, because I think otherwise it risks depleting our reserves.
- Bug tracking recognition
We have just discussed books for developers, which not only should help the level of code in Inkscape but also can be seen as a token reward for our most active developers. I really would like to do something to recognize how much ~suv had contributed to Inkscape through her work on keeping our bug-tracker in order (and answering questions on IRC).
Agreed. Not just ~suv but also translators and others have done SO much to help support the project. I'm guessing none of them would care to have a programming book, though!
Suggestions for non-coder reward ideas?
