This is an interesting request. Does anyone have any good ideas about how to be sure how money will be spent for hackfests?
I could say that the money will go into the pool used to transport people and allow them to stay here in Boston?
Best Regards, Martin Owens
I'd just give them a list of the development attendees, and let them know what was accomplished last year as a result of the efforts. They may be interested in our outreach and community building plans and the open nature of our hackfests. Maybe we could slap their logo up next to the hackfest graphic in a sponsored by area.
Just a few thoughts. -C

I'm on the board of directors of ASIFA-Hollywood in Los Angeles. I'm our designated liaison with the open source community. We're interested in making a donation of $250USD with some of our funds earmarked for open source projects. The proposal is to donate towards the March Hackfest. Because this would be an international transfer for us, the board said it would be most comfortable if we could receive a written explanation of what specifically the money would go towards. As a non-profit organization these things go a long way towards keeping us in good faith with our membership. If you don't mind doing that for us then I'd be happy to forward the info along to our CFO who could make the donation. Furthermore, if you have ideas or suggestions as to how we can help support Inkscape and the open source community in general, please feel free to share that with me. I'd love to hear it. Thank you for your time. I hope to hear from you soon.

I'm okay with us providing a note, I think it is just a promise from the board. But, I'm not sure that the note needs to come from SFC since they'd be technically writing the check to them, earmarked for us.
We should, after that, talk about a bronze sponsorship. I imagine for them putting their name on our website would be a very visible key to their membership of where their money went.

Yes, as part of the request SFC would be directed to tag it in ledger for the hackfest pool.

Perhaps what they're actually asking for here is an invoice. That's pretty typical for event sponsors for X.org that I've worked with.
Please have them contact me directly to get the above worked out. (In general, we should have a more direct path for prospective sponsors to get into contact with me.)
