Dear Leadership Committee,
Following our successful vote to hire a project coordinator, I'm here to report the progress and the remaining process for this job posting.
I spoke with Pono from the SFC to finalise the details and the process they would like. These include:
* The creation of a private mailing list where applications can go. Marc has created jobs@lists.inkscape.org which is a list of the hiring panel, and pono and myself as observers. I think Marc is there too as list admin.
* Creation of the complete job text here: https://inkscape.org/jobs/project-coordinator-2022/ which the SFC wanted us to host on our own website. Included modifications from the SFC are the sentence for "equal opportunity employer" and the final section in how to apply for the job.
The schedule for the submission of applicants and review processes is in that final section.
* The formation of three inkscape community members to vet applications. Tim, prkos and michele have volunteered and are added to the above list.
~ Process todo:
Confirm pono is on the mailing list and is receiving emails.
Give job posting to the Vector's team for publication, however they would like to do that. A news article, twitter, etc etc.
I need two other PLC members to form the finalisation panel, to conduct video interviews once we have a short list. Each interview could be an hour long, and there should be three at least in the short list, so please be aware of the time commitment at the start of April.
Best Regards, Martin Owens
I'll volunteer for the panel.
Cheers, Josh

So do we need to vote on the updated job description and the committee assignments? We didn't specify a process for choosing them so I think we'd need to vote on that. I'm not sure how they were chosen.
Not sure how the finalization committee is being chosen either, but we should talk about it. I can help out there as well. Ted On Mar 3 2022, at 2:29 pm, Martin Owens doctormo@geek-2.com wrote:

I would feel more comfortable with another vote, but I'm willing to float my comfort if a majority just wants to fast track the process... this one time, on a trial basis.

Re: Modifications to the job posting
A further vote isn't technically necessary since no changes have been made outside of the agreed process. The process approved included adding the contact and other details required by the SFC. This is because contact information, and exact scheduling is an implementation detail which was anticipated to be filled in and documented in the PDF v4 of the vote passed.
Imagine for example we voted on the specific document with a blank box says "SFC fill in right words here". Nothing in the intent has changed.
I would be happy to vote in favour of additional language to clarify the contract nature of the job. But please get this vote done right away. I'll keep the posting in draft until at least next Tuesday to give you time.
Re: Recruitment of Panel volunteers
There has been no selection process. Recruitment has been done by asking trustworthy and long standing people in the project to step forward and taking the first people who did so. This gives us a fair bit of randomness:
Primary panel is Tim, Michaela, Michele Secondary Panel is: Josh, Tav and Martin
I don't see a reason to be overly officious at this stage. If it all goes pear shaped and Tav turns out to be three kids in a trench coat bribing the Michigan governor for hanging chads then... er well, we'll rethink it. 😉

I would say that the process was written imprecisely if that's what you believe it said. Putting something in "the right format" is much different than adding sections, but since we're going to have to modify it anyway that point is moot.
I would be happy to vote in favour of additional language to clarify the contract nature of the job. But please get this vote done right away. I'll keep the posting in draft until at least next Tuesday to give you time.
Okay, I'll try to figure that out. I'm a bit worried about contract work significantly reducing the pool of applicants, but it is more important to be clear than anything.

I would disagree. Having one person chose based on who they consider "trustworthy" sounds more like Oligarchy to me. Just putin' that out there. Seems like favoritism. Ted
