Vote: Extend "Bugfix Accelerator 2026.2"
Dear Leadership,
I've worked through with the help of Roland, all the data for the first 2/3rds of the Bug Accelerator program to assess if we should extend it. There are two factors for the extension itself:
1. Productivity and Focus
The project so far has cleared about 55-60% of the 1.5 marked bugs. There has been a great deal of activity in both categorising, reviewing and fixing issues. The list of issues fixed can be found on the Inkscape membership blog.
I assess that this has been remarkably successful.
2. Availability
The second part is the availability of the three contractors to work for three more months. One programmer Sean, will not be available for an extension while the other two will be available.
In order to keep the strength of the team and the dynamic of merge request reviews I recommend that we contract out to the next available person who applied for the original contract.
Conclusion:
I recommend we extend the program a further three months as originally planned. The same number of hours as we currently have. With the additional selection of a replacement programmer.
Total renewal budget: $49,500 Terms: Same as "Bugfix Accelerator 2026.1"
========== VOTE ==========
a. Approve the budget for BFA 2026.2, b. Disapprove c. Something else
Thanks everyone!
Best Regards, Martin Owens
I vote a.

FYI, we'll be able to go through the previous list of candidates to find a suitable person instead of going through the hiring process again. So let me know the list of candidates who you will be looking at and I can join up to figure out how to select someone.

Hi,
I vote (a) since the project is clearly successful, but given the non-trivial amount compared to our usual yearly donations, I think it would be good to have more regular communications on how the project needs donations to be sustainable and the project achievements.
Do you think this is something we can ask of the vector team, or that it should be somehow part of the program itself ?

Hi Marc,
I already put a message out to Vectors. I thought maybe highlighting the work in the release notes, but she suggested correctly writing a dedicated piece and linking back to it from the release notes.
The problem is we don't have writers available. We may need to do recruitment.
The other bit of media I was going to is a video interviews; which helps me explain to my sponsors the time I spend on hiring and I think the project get news out for donations for the next rounds.
I kinda wish we were richer so I could invite Roland to Boston and do it face to face 😅️
