Maybe adding a note in the README files that this directory does not do anything at the moment...
Currently the note in the readme file is not very helpful:
"This new folder is part of the Inkscape 0.38 directory reorganization. Please place the appropriate files into this folder.
Thank You!
Inkscape Developers "

Hi,
To the best of my knowledge, by default several empty directories are created by Inkscape installations: $PREFIX/share/gradients, fonts and patterns. I've already seen several times people asking, where they can find patterns or gradients for Inkscape, because they think that something is supposed to be put there :)
Should we get rid of them until we properly support that functionality?
And do we have some kind of vision for patterns/gradients libraries?
Alexandre
