Just noticed the exact same thing, after doing a fresh checkout of our repository. Is someone following up upon Tavmjong's report?
Inkscape detects wide-screen monitors and sets 'View > Wide' at the first launch (revision 9503 and later).
Changing back to previous toolbar layout: 'View > Default' Changing back to 0.47 toolbar layout: 'View > Custom' (string freeze prevented to adapt menu entry)
