It's not necessary to have a cooperative upstream (though it is much
nicer) you can build the tarballs from a fork, publish them on github
and kick the distros into packaging mode.
I would have preferred we do it this way than bringing in the
adaptergrams code into our codebase. But I understand there are
complications with different platforms.
