Ugh. I'd rather avoid triple modifiers. Let's assign Shift+Alt click to that, and Ctrl+Alt to insertion and taking selection - the former is not taken.
I think despite the triple modifier we should stick with Shift+Ctrl+Alt (if it is not taken) for the simple reason of consistency: in other situations related to selections, pressing Shift when performing an action means "perform the action and add to the current selection". So we should keep it this way here, too. Besides, once you're already using a (somewhat clumsy) double modifier, pressing one additional key isn't that much worse imho, in particular since all three are close together. Just my 2 cents.
