My main issue with translations is the fact that the software, strings and docs undergo the most important changes only a few days before the release and this does not give a lot of time to translators.
Updating strings is quite ok, as strings evolve parallely to feature development. But docs (such as tutorials and keys) can become a very heavy workload to be dealt in a very few days.
I agree that inkscape-translators list would be helpful. It would be good to discuss about meanings of translated strings, to get notifications about major changes in strings/docs or maybe to get notifications about bugs found in translations. Also it could help updating docs in the development cycle as they update(with notifications about that of course ), so updated tutorials would be ready in time of hard freeze. Ad notifications about docs: updates of doc-docbook module could be sent here(translators list) as notifications. If I am not wrong it could be possible.
