I propose to remove it because it does not seem to serve a useful function, and because it uses the absolutely technical term "knotholder" which users have no idea about.
Indeed, I was noticing the same recently. I'm not a native speaker, but this word doesn't seam to be very meaningful.
Sorry for the delayed reply. I do not know where this checkbox came from; hopefully we can find it in the svn logs.
