Of course you are right for complex multiple objects selection. Double click would be safer. But some conflicts could occur with the double click used to leave a group you opened previously with another double click inside one of its components.

I think it should be double click here too to deselect objects, since there is no way to regain your previous selection (and my selection get pretty big for grouping sometimes). For consistency as well as functionality, this makes the most sense to me. -C
