We should think carefully before adding inkscape specific attributes. I think in this particular case, it is OK to add the inkscape:unit attribute, because it is only a UI-related attribute, so we can delete it in the future without breaking important functionality. Haven't thought enough about it though.
I think it is best to focus on fixing the regressions / bugs for now.
