[Inkscape-devel] rasterize an object?

i started a new thread, even though this stems from the same task that made me start the previous thread (hack-tweaking a filter)

Is there a way to rasterize an object or a selection in inkscape?  That might also accomplish my goal — I could then apply raster color manipulations... currently, that's impossible, if my gold-splatter is in vector form. (AFAICT)
