You can tweek all you need with the Filters Editor
Open Filters/Filters Editor
Click on the filter name in the Filter window
Click on Specular Lighting in the tree on the right
Click on the Specular Color yellow rectangle in Effects Parameters
then choose your color in the Color dialog box, accept and close it.

A lot of the fancy filters do not have any user parameters; i am looking at Filters -> Materials -> Gold splatter, for example.
How can I tweak the colors this produces ? (the "gold" is too green for my purposes)
Is it a python extension script? I'm failing to find that in the extensions directory.
