I was reading the release notes for the upcoming GIMP release (http://gimp.org/release-notes/gimp-2.4.html ), and I noticed that they are updating their icon set to one that adheres to the tango guidelines. I was wondering what everyone thinks about using the inkscape tango icons set(http://gnomelook.org/content/show.php/Tangofied+inkscape+icons+set?conte nt=48140 ) as default.
I know that the current revision of this icon set is incomplete in some parts (eg: Tweak and Bucket Fill.)
Just thought I would throw the idea out there.
Cheers,

Definitely it should be used. I'm using it since a while and I'm totally contend.

I think this will be a third time Inkscape replaces all its icons for some new ones. Personally I see little sense in this, to me no set is definitely better than others, and I rather dislike the Tango style which I think is quite drab. Still I won't object, provided this change will be the last one :)
David, if you're using Tango, can we delete the old David_icons.svg that we still have in share/icons? It is missing too many icons by now anyway.

Well, it's so much better than the old gnome default! And mainly it is about how great it is to have a standard for the Linux desktop. There even is a Tango set for Scribus. If with time we manage to have Inkscape, GIMP and Scribus not only have the same style but actually share as many icons as possible that would be great for usability in the "creative suite".
Still I won't object, provided this change will be the last one :)
Thanks :)

Well, I wouldn't object. Even before, I wouldn't have objected, I mean, _I_ could use it anyways.

Weddeburn and myself cleaned some of those up a bit a while ago. We could probably fix the remaining ones in a couple of days and make sure the tool icons sync with those used by gimp(2.4) and scribus(latest). 1. http://andreasn.se/diverse/temp/icons.svg

Hi!
I'm already using the tango icons, and for the missing ones I just import the current ones (don't have much time to redraw them in tango style). IMO tango icons are a lot better than the current ones and should be the default ones.
An idea: what if we organize a contest on openclipart.org, so people can submit the missing icons in tabgo style? I'm sure that a lot of inkscape users will be very happy to help!

Yes, that would be very cool...we can set that up...might be difficult to manage, do you have ideas how we can make that contest easy since there are multiple targets?

is there any way to change the standard GTK + icons on the windows build to the tango style also?

Right, well, simply you could just overwrite the old icons.svg with the tango ones ;)
I'm not sure what the preferred way to do this is, but sure, why not, power to the committer of this change...
