From the official Summer of Code blog http://googlesummerofcode.blogspot.com/2007/04/what-happens-now.html:
Encourage them [the students] to talk amongst themselves to build camaraderie and mutual inspiration.
So? Where's everyone from? I only spoke to a couple of people and realized their posts were coming from SoC applicants.
For those that don't know me yet, you can find out more on my web page (gasp! Making you work!): http://www.scs.carleton.ca/~gbanaszk/
Looking forward to getting to know you, Gail

If students have blogs and plan to write about their SoC projects, we can add them to http://planet.inkscape.org. (I am not a big fan of using a temporary aggregator during SoC only, but we can also do that)

I don't have a blog myself, but I would be interested in reading the others at least. I'm a bit sad that no other students have replied to my introduction thread. One found me on Facebook though! So where are the other six? (Though I imagine Max is probably finishing up his thesis...)

Sorry, I forgot! Since probably most Inkscape devs already know me I did not introduce myself for GSoC on the list here.
I am a Dutch PhD student (electrical engineering) and got involved in Inkscape about half a year ago (?). Josh (ScislaC) talked me into creating the gradient tool extension and now into the Live Path Effects project; but in return he is my guinea pig for testing bugs ;) When not working on my PhD or Inkscape, I play guitar + saxophone, read, or play tennis (plus another sport, called 'club bal' or 'bat bal' something like that; it looks like hockey but is difficult to explain: see [1]) and my favorite sandwhich topping is komijnenkaas! =)
See you on IRC/Jabber,
Johan

Cool! What are you studying? I'm going to start my Masters of Computer Science in September and plan to study something in the area of computer vision / graphics / computational geometry.

I used to play tenor sax, but I haven't been able to during university. One of my big goals in life is to buy a sax and take lessons to get back up to snuff. As for your sport, it looks like it could be Lacrosse http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lacrosse.
See you around Johan!

Yep. Trying to, that is. ;) It always takes sooooo much more time than you expect to fix these small gaps and thinkos. That's why there has been less from me on this list in the last two weeks or so.
Anyway, you are definitely right to complain about our missing responses, so here is mine finally. I already wrote a rather longish email some time ago when I first considered applying for SoC, so for convenience I'll try to keep this short. :)
I'm a 26-year-old student of mathematics living in Heidelberg, a beautiful city in the south of Germany (featuring a Renaissance castle, a picturesque Old Town and marvelous possibilities for hiking and cycling in the surrounding mountains). If you ever happen to pass by, be sure to give it a visit. And of course let me know, if I still happen to be here!
Currently I am finishing my thesis, after which I have four final examinations before receiving my 'Diplom' degree (roughly equivalent to a combined bachelor and master).
Obviously I am interested in science, computers and related topics. But I am also a very passionate singer and fan of a capella music. Currently I sing in one choir and two vocal groups, although I have tried many of both, few of which were really worth it ... We cover both 'popular' and 'serious' music - not really 'classical', since we do a lot of contemporary stuff.
When listening to a capella, I have a weakness for Scandinavian groups, first and foremost "The Real Group" from Sweden, but also "Rajaton" (Finnish) and "Riltons Vänner" (Swedish again). They do everything ranging from Jazz over Pop to their very distinct own styles. Really amazing. Well, and Bobby McFerrin, of course, but he can't really be called a group, I guess. :) Apart from a capella, I enjoy a wide range of other music without preferring a particular style. Everything that sounds good and has a message is nice.
In my spare time I also like reading, doing sports (running, cycling, beachvolleyball), meeting friends and a lot of other things students usually do. ;)
So much for my somewhat music-biased personal introduction. Oh, and just in case I haven't said it before: Many, many thanks to all people involved for accepting my application for the 3D box project and giving me the change to work with you! I'm really looking forward to it. And hopefully, I'll be able to be an asset and give something back.
So long for now, going back to my thesis. Cheers, Max
