Work on NFT dialog for GSOC 2010

Hi developers,
I found something on the blueprint that I really want to work on :-) It's the NFT dialog : « New From Template » dialog. For more informations see : http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/NewFromTemplateSpec
I think that I have sufficient skills in order to work on this improvement. And It could be great if I can work on this for the Google Summer of Code 2010. Is there anybody who wants to be my « mentor » ? :-)
Good night.

Um, I'm afraid I never finished the spec, sorry :(
It's supposed to be quite a difficult piece of machinery internally, and some things have already changed. E.g. it mentions ccHost integration, whereas these days it would rather by GetHotNewStuff integration (e.g. inkscapestuff.org) which alone is probably worth a GSoC project.
Also, the bit regarding procedural templates probably requires changes in the way extensions register themselves in menu etc.
I'd love to mentor you, but with no real programming experience whatsoever I'd make a lousy mentor.

Hello Alexandre,
If the spec aren't finished, we can begin now to improve them. Are you agree ?
If the answer is yes, let's go ! ;-) http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/NewFromTemplateSpec
I made a point on the current template selector, you can see it on : http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Talk:NewFromTemplateSpec
About mentoring, I would enjoy that you become my mentor. And for programing questions, I think that developers can help me :-)
See you.

I'll see what I can do. I'm quite lacking spare time at the moment and trying to do too many things at once already.

I'm not sure that it is the right way. I'd first hear from the organization's admin.

Albin, I will see if we can get other volunteers to help flesh out the spec a little more... however, if no one is able, it may be a last minute "here are the basics of what you need to accomplish" situation. Then again, this is assuming that we are accepted as a mentoring organization and that slots permitted, your proposal is selected.

That is not the right way. We need to have Albin paired up with a developer as the mentor. That's not to say that Alexandre can not give input and feedback, as I've done that with a majority of our SoC students in the past. Right now we've only had one possible developer agree to be a mentor this year, so if that's all we have to offer (and are accepted by Google), competition with proposals will be fierce.
Cheers, Josh
