All Devs (yes that includes Translators too), please chime in with your opinions as well as any comments on modifications that may need to be done.

my vote is #1 for 0.47 and #3 for svn (0.47-devel) I did not like #2 because it obfuscates Inkscape logo too much.

I second that. #1 is appropriately artistic for a public release, #3 is nicely lightweight for devel :)
I thought #1 was too clinical and simple, it reminds me of some of the early 3D rendering tests were they haven't gotten textures.
I do like #2, it's nice and shows a little more comfort.
And I like #3 for it's elegance and design.
Looking through all the entries was fun, was there a reason you guys didn't make a gallery to put them all in?
Regards, Martin

I think the "refactoring theme" was only something I coined here on the list, and was never official.

one question: where is the "refactoring concept" of #1 ?
I did at deviantart but... ok, copying...
I'm very happy with the first choice. I only don't like the font-face, but that is not so bad and i respect the artist choice. I propose to do NOT change.
I don't like the second choice, but i respect the public votes. I'm no sure if the blur will be good in the about window if that may use a fast render.
The third (in my opinion) is great for the 0.47+devel testing package.

My first choice is #1, second choice is #3. #1 does have a couple things which I would want to see fixed, though:
1. needs a better font/type treatment, so -- better font (sans-serif, maybe?) and also no gradients on type please
2. the saturated cyan (on the bottom edge and in the magnifying glass) needs to be toned down/desaturated; it breaks the photorealism at present

Of those left, #3 is my favorite for an about screen.
#1 is 'cute', but a little geeky in a POV-Ray ish sense.
(that leaves #2 out, but that is because it is very nice art... but doesn't strike me as quite Inkscape-about screen)

Funny you should mention that, considering this little pic from a couple of years ago:

:-)
By the way, since the build server is gone, I've manually made a couple of builds and uploaded them to inkscape.modevia.com.

As many others, I like #1 and then prefer #3. I find #3 particularly well suited for the devel version. In #1, I like the gradient on type but, while the 0.47 is elegant, the font on "Draw freely" and the website address look vertically compressed which gives them a heavy feel that does not match the graciousness of the 0.47 text. Why not try with the usual "draw freely" font?
JiHO --- http://jo.irisson.free.fr/
I like #2 as art but I don't think it is right for an about screen.
#3 is a tad subtle. With its technical bent it would be a great screen for the next development version.
My choice would be #1. I've a couple of comments: The Bezier and pencil lines could be a bit bolder. The 'A' is nicely drawn but it doesn't follow the metaphor pattern of the other tools. It would be interesting to see the magnify tool magnify something in the background... but adding something would break the composition (it took someone I showed it to a few moments to realize it was a magnify glass). I agree with others that the text could use some tweaking.

My favourite is #3 (although it may be a bit too much on the technical side as an About Screen for the general user, but I think it's still OK). My second choice is #1. I really like #2 from an artistic point of view, but I don't think it's the right style for an About Screen.
Cheers, Max

I was waiting for someone to write down my opinion :-). Thanks Max!
So, I vote in accordance with Max.

Hi, I think I misunderstood and voted on the Inkscape site as «basurero». I quote: ================================================ Hi, I vote for entry number 1. It clearly shows what Inkscape is all about. By the way, I'm the spanish translator ================================================

I'm not going to vote here, as this time I don't have a strong opinion on which should be the winner.
Instead, I'll raise an issue which should preferably be addressed before going mainstream: the string "Draw freely" in the about screen is going to be translated, so it would be better done with a font with comprehensive multi-language support and not converted to path.
JucaBlues used to do the i18n last time, I'm Cc:ing him here for an head-up.
Ciao, Luca
yeah... I can help again this time.
I hope we have <switch> and SVGFonts in 0.48 so that we could use it on the about screen and then we could have a single SVG file instead of one for each language.
