Hi,
Igor has just mailed me that a new version of UniConvertor (1.1.5) will be out soon.
Here is what you (win32 packagers and users) need to know.
1. First of all, Inkscape currently ships older version of UC - 1.1.3, whereas the actual one is 1.1.4.
2. The new Windows build of UC will be *much* larger (around 50Mbyte), so he's thinking about doing a special, smaller build for Inkscape, stripped of Python (IIRC).
3. The new version of UC is tuned for VisualStudio 2008 which allows 64bit builds, whereas Inkscape seems to rely on mingw (no 64bit, as he states). This might be problematic for Windows packagers.
If you need any details, please mail him.

does Uniconvertor currently ship bundled with the non-Windows builds of Inkscape?

not with current osx packages (but it would be good to include it because there's no osx installer available for UniConvertor and many users will not be able or willing to use the command line to install the uniconvertor python module. There's no mention or instructions about installing on Mac OS X on UniConvertor's download page.)

I have a problem with the projected size increase on Windows. The current size of the uniconvertor subdirectory for version 1.1.3 with Inkscape is 4.0 Meg. Uniconvertor 1.1.4, installed separately, is also 4.0 Meg. I would not like to see the size go significantly higher than this.

I gather from the description that Alexander gave that the new version includes Python binaries; if this is so then we should be able to just chuck that bit away and use ours. If it really is that big and we can't do anything about it then I don't think we should upgrade it; Inkscape is already far too big. (Though with UPX compression as in the portable build I was able to get it down from 200+ MB to ~86MB - still too big in my opinion.)
