Version 0.48.0 won't export tiff file format. This format will accept both vector and bitmap objects. Is tiff output in the plans somewhere?

Yes, the plan was to have it by now :)
There was a failed Google Summer of Code 2010 project to rework saving/exporting and add various additional file formats to the current Export Bitmap dialog.
Will it be implemented? Eventually. When? When someone volunteers.

There is another possible way. sK1 Project has started similar work for TIFF format support as output. So may be this issue will be resolved using UniConvertor.

Only as a workaround. There is a somewhat popular demand to export selections to TIFF, JPEG, SVG, EPS and even PDF. That means you can't just 'Save a copy' like now, you need to extend functionality of the existing dialog. I really am not sure that UC would be of any help here.

Advanced TIFF export is developing first of all for sK1 to support CMYKA images. UniConvertor will get this feature automatically. Concerning 'Selection only' option, this is Inscape issue but not UniConvertor. As far as I know Inkscape pass temporal SVG file for UC. So what you save there is what you get in output but additional options like color profiles, DPI, image size etc. could be passed through command line options.

Yes, I know. It's exactly what I said, just with other words :)

Idon't think that's true. The TIFF is extensible and has many unofficial extensions, each supported by different programs. Microsoft embeds multi-page faxes in TIFF files while Adobe embeds entire PSD layer structures and various GIS applications embed geographic data. But the baseline TIFF format doesn't support any of these features - perhaps a single clipping path but that's about it for vector shapes.

An even clipping path is a TIFF extension introduced by Aldus for PageMaker.

That never stopped GIMP team from implementing clipping paths export to TIFF and Scribus team -- from implementing support for both clippings paths and blending modes :)
