Re: [Inkscape-devel] SVG2 hatch rendering
It doesn't look terrible here...
In particular it'd be good to know if you're using cairo that includes the downscaling patch added to cairo last week. If not, then please re-test with a newer snapshot of cairo.
I use cairo 1.12.16 distributed with opensuse 13.1.

Is that possibly related to cairo or pixman version? It doesn't look terrible here... https://www.dropbox.com/s/amnq9c8c64thxrk/hatches.png

I've got 1.13.0~20140204-0ubuntu1 in Ubuntu Utopic (looks like it's the same as what's in Trusty).
Cheers, Josh
I've just tested the rendering with cairo trunk (commit c7ff9bb32e20679d6da4e8a2856be716e5bd9e12). It looks ok.

Good, Bill's downscaling patch I landed for cairo last week probably did the trick; thanks for confirming.

Hatches can be now exported to pdf [1]. In the pdf document hatch paths are continuous lines, what can be visible with high zoom levels.
When a pdf file is opened in inkscape, hatches are represented by pattern elements. In theory it is possible to recover back hatches. The information about them could be embedded in pdf, like LibreOffice does. I don't know however if cairo enables it.
