Wait what.
What's the wait? The result isn't a secret, I've run the numbers minus Maren's vote and it's there's a clear winner. I don't understand the need to keep the project in the dark.
Martin,
It appears to me that actually you're not in the dark :)
The time is needed to write social posts, create a nice picture to accompany them and maybe a short news article.
When setting up the contest, we've planned in some buffer time, both for that, and in case anything needs to be clarified first.
So the announcement date has already been set to Tuesday since the start of the contest, and everyone in the general public is expecting it to be at that date.
Of course every contributor or reader of this mailing list is free to make their own calculations or to ask for the result early, e.g. to prepare the About Screen for the program, just please don't publish them yet.

I suspected that this might be the reason, although it strikes me as counter to Inkscape's general ethos to not treat it's internal community like the general public.
Secrets for the advantage of press announcements is how Canonical got itself in a lot of trouble with it's community back in the day. We should not emulate that.

While being open is important, it is also important to provide space for people to be able to do the jobs that they've volunteered for. Short circuiting their roles or providing undo pressure devalues their work and discourages contribution. There are no "secrets" here, just a process to ensure that everyone has time to be happy with their work.

Stating your opinions as fact is not becoming. Ted

Sorry Maren,
I have anxiety about unneccary secrecy, but you've not done anything wrong with this competition's final vote.
I look forward to reading the result and nice picture tomorrow.
Regards, Martin
One could argue that the extra time for press releases to be made also ensures more people get the news simultaneously than they would with less shareable content they may otherwise miss. :) This is especially true on social platforms like facebook, where everyone's already looking for a banner that makes a big deal out of it.

Thanks, Chris and Martin.
However, it's going to be a bit difficult to stick to the schedule, as Martin has run the site update to a newer Django version yesterday, and as it happens, the news app crashes when I try to access the article for editing (https://inkscape.org/admin/cmsplugin_news/news/1063/change/).
He had asked me when running it is safe (after the Contest is fully through), and had set the dateto April 1.
As far as I know, the update's author, Ishaan, who was meant to be involved in it, also was not included in the process.
Unless maybe if you, Martin, could fix the news app in time? We had planned for publishing this evening (around 18:00 UTC, or a bit later), so there's still a bit of time left.

Understood. Thanks for the update, and I'm sure folks will be just as thrilled later in the week as they would be today. :)
