To be able to help you we need more details. For example, which instructions did you follow? Have you read the wiki on inkscape.org? Have you installed the devlibs? If so, in which directory? Apparently you're using windows, but which version? And why do you want to compile inkscape at all? Our latest v0.48 release is very fresh and up-to-date

I tried and failed to compile on Windows 7 the other day for the first time too. I got the message first, I believe, and it was due to not having the devlibs installed. After I'd installed these dev libs, I got a bit further (able to compile), but I failed on a lgomp linking error of some kind. It will be interesting to see whether or not it works for you!
Thanks, Craig

A workaround for this was posted about three weeks ago I think. Here's a link for you:

Have a look at Jasper's comment.
Good luck,

Hi Deiderick,
I've been doing the "OS shuffle" this week, and seem to have ended up back on Win7, so I may well give this a go in the next few days.
Thanks, Craig

We will need more information to troubleshoot, so please try to be as verbose as possible. So first of all, please confirm that you've installed the dev libs. Secondly, does the file gtkmm-2.4.pc exist at all in C:\devlibs\lib\pkgconfig\ ? Before running btool, did you run mingwenv.bat?

Diederik
Hi, I can build, so I share my infomation below:
Inkscape build pass on my machine. My OS is windows7, 32-bits. The build log is: build_2010-08-28_1118.rebuild.log
I wrote two convenient script, which trigger build and produce log file. I put the two file in inkscape/ directory the same to mingenv.bat. ( please check the environment setting before execution ) The detail log will stored in the directory uppper inkscape/
I encountered 2 bugs during windows build before, one is solved, the other is: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/616633
Hope these info helps,
sincerely, Mat.
