Hi all, With Partha's and Liam's help, we seem to be able to build for 64-bit Windows now. Some dependencies are missing, but it is a good start.
For more details, please see http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Compiling_Inkscape_on_Windows_64-bit
All help is appreciated! (I do not know about the consequences for release. It'd be nice if we can release with a w64 version too, but I do not know about potential bugs with newer dependency versions. If anything, dragging the canvas seems quite a bit faster on my machine with the 64bit version)
cheers, Johan

Great work you guys.
From a release perspective it would indeed be nice to include a 64-bit
build. If we don't, it looks like it'd get provided by a third party, anyway. And we have time before release to shake out bugs.

Johan,
For some reason, if you click on "save as" again, it shows up. I can't explain this behavior.
Thanks, Partha

Use the Gtk file dialog instead of the native Windows file dialog. It works. Hopefully.

Sorry, I should have specified that the native Windows dialog does not work for me and I was referring to the GTK dialog.

liamw, have you considered that someone could not want to use the GTK dialog by choice? Being forced to use that dialogs would be enough for me to exclude using the 64 bit version.

This could be the same issue that happens on XP sometimes: the dialog is opened but it's under the main window; to have it come up I just click on the canvas or on Inkscape's titlebar. I'm speaking about the native Windows dialog, not only the "Save..." but also the "Save as..." and the "Save a Copy..."; can't say for the "Open..." because I never use it.

Hi all, Partha has done some more work, and now we can build an almost fully functional Inkscape (only aspell is not included), for 64bit Windows. This version is *A TON* faster than our regular 32bit build. I suspect this is because of newer library versions (dragging the canvas is horribly slow for our regular version).
Thank you very much Partha!

Great news, thanks! Let me know when you have pre0 packages ready to post to SF.
I'm going to be out of town this coming week, but once we have the first round of pre0 binaries up on SF I'll work on getting a pre1 put together.

I haven't looked into windows builds at all yet, but would there be any scope for including a cross-compiled build in our nightlies? It would help us to guard against future build failures.

Up to you. The former would be nice but I know cherrypicking patches is time consuming. If you post trunk, you should rename the version to 0.91pre0+svnNN so the source's origin is clear.

Bryce,
Not to worry. pre0 compiles fine and I'll provide the binaries.
Thanks, Partha
