Inviting you to LGM and Inkscape Hackfest in Toronto
Hi all,
I would like to invite you all to join me in attending the Libre Graphics Meeting in Toronto! It is held April 29 to May 2 at the University of Toronto.
Inkscape will also be hosting a Hackfest the three days prior to this event, April 26-28. If you've done any development on Inkscape, and wish to help us plan our future, then definitely please come!
~=> Please let me know ASAP if you can attend! <=~
We have sponsorship available on a limited basis to Inkscape contributors, first come first served, so make sure to RSVP with me quickly. Our community has been coming together with donations specifically to enable developer attendance. We've got $10,000 set aside for this event, and with this hope to assemble 10-12 developers there. Maybe more depending on how the fundraising goes!
Speaking of fundraising, please help us spread the word that our project needs more cash donations for this event. Point folks here for details:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
* The Libre Graphics Meeting is the major event of the year for FOSS graphics application developers and users. I've only been once myself, but Inkscape has attended many times. It's a great way to network with our peer projects, share ideas, and get inspired.
* The Inkscape Hackfest is new this year. It's rare for us to have dedicated time face-to-face to work on Inkscape. We're going to use this valuable time to design some major new features and to plan out a roadmap that will take us to 1.0. Other topics I hope we can work on include designing a new extension system, re-thinking our UI design, improving our pdf/printing capabilities, and all the other things listed as 'Future' on our current roadmap page. Personally, I'm hoping to experiment with running Inkscape with cairo-gl, and test getting Inkscape running as a Wayland client.
* Are you located in Toronto and available to help Inkscape? We're looking for someone who can assist with local logistics. Please contact me and let me know your availability.
* Sponsorship amounts will vary according to your history with the project. We definitely want everyone but in particular we're hoping to encourage high volume, long term contributors, so will try and skew sponsorship their way. So if you're a long term contributor, you really need to come!

I will attend the Hackfest and LGM. I may leave a day early from LGM.

Hi Tav,
I am registering your attendance at the hackfest with the following data, can you doublecheck what I have is correct?
Name: Tavmjong Bah Email: tavmjong@...8... Number of commits: 398 First contribution: 2007-06-22 Days at Hackfest: 4/26, 4/27, 4/28 Days at LGM: 4/29, 4/30, 5/1 Hackfest Sponsorship: $2000 LGM Sponsorship: $500
The sum of the two sponsorship amounts is your maximum allowed expense, but you'll need to file expenses with Software Freedom Consortium for actual reimbursements, so be sure to keep all receipts. This amount is for spending on hotel, plane/rail/car travel, meals and incidentals.
Please book travel as soon as possible to get best rates, and make sure it is within $100 of the lowest fare. It must be booked by April 11 at latest. If you need the Conservancy to book your travel, that can be done - for details on what they need, see:
https://gitorious.org/conservancy/policies/source/Travel/info-needed-to-book...
IMPORTANT: Save a screenshot or PDF of your airfare search, to prove your rate is within $100 of lowest.
The Conservancy's Travel Policy covers our travel and expense reimbursements, so please read it over:
https://gitorious.org/conservancy/policies/source/Travel/conservancy-travel-...
If everyone follows the policy, we'll have a smooth sailing for the trip and no headaches getting expenses refunded. If there are policy problems, the Inkscape Board will need to petition the Conservancy to authorize the exception; not the end of the world, but something worth avoiding!
If you have any questions or need assistance, email me. I'll be serving as event coordinator for the Inkscape Hackfest and point of contact for Inkscape's LGM attendees.
Bryce
* - The sponsorship amounts for LGM are currently under review by the board; the amount might be increased to $1000.

I can't make it to the hackfest, but would it be possible to also consider setting up a Google Hangout or something similar for remote attendeees to at least listen in, and / or contribute?

I'm going to the hackfest and LGM. Regarding Ryan's request, we should probably try to have an active hangout going and we should also try to be in IRC to inform and inquire.
Cheers, Josh
