gsoc2012, Designing SVG fonts using styles
Hello! My name is Mikalaj Parafeniuk. I'm a third-year computer science student of Belarussian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics and I am rather confident with C++. I am interested in applying to google summer of code with project, which can be found here: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/inkscape/+spec/designing-svg-fonts-using-st.... But I have a set of questions: 1) Is the idea still actual and what priority does it has? 2) The proposed idea is rather raw, could someone give me more details? 3) Could you give me some starting points? I'm going to checkout inkscape sources. To what part of code should i pay attention?

If you are interested in applying, you should see our Summer of Code wiki page, particularly this section: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Google_Summer_Of_Code#The_.22two_pat...
But I have a set of questions:
- Is the idea still actual and what priority does it has?
It is a good idea, however, the priority probably wouldn't be the highest this summer. That is not to say it wouldn't be considered or accepted, but we're really looking to see internal improvements rather than new features. For example, projects focusing on improved SVG support, internal refactoring, necessary work on lib2geom, etc, would be optimal this year. Again though, that's not to say new features won't be considered or accepted.

Hopefully Alexandre could flesh things out a little more in the blueprint. As for starting points, I would say it would be good to look through our bug tracker to find two bugs to fix (per the above link) and track the source of those down in the codebase.
