The "Help->About Inkscape" splash can be slow to render and has given some users the impression that Inkscape is therefore slow.
One option is to replace the splash rendering with a static image in release builds.
A downside of this is maintaining and adding a ~200Kb image to the package. But at some stage Inkscape may get a startup splash anyway ...
Any interest in adding a static splash image ?

You should check to see if the image is hooked into our cache mechanism.
It's not. John, the cache mechanism he speaks of its used for the icons currently.

What about adding a low-resolution splash image that is then replaced with the high-resolution image once rendered? c.f. progressive JPEG.
