Dear Developers,

There's a few restrictions with what we can do, for instance vector art doesn't support gradients / blur etc. But we'll keep playing with the settings to get a good result and then maybe order a few things to test.
What do you think?

I put in a test order of a couple shirts. Seemed to work, ok; delivery is in a week or two, I'll report back when I get it.

OK, I've put in an order for a mug and a hat. There are scortch marks on my paypal account, this stuff is pricey. So I'll be looking for good quality when it comes.
Martin,
Hi Martin, great work!
Some throughts: *There is no a tiny inkscape icon like a cocodrile ;)
*Maybe we need to retouch inkscape logo to be more real, maybe a #333 black could solve or a bit noise in the preview. Seems better in inkscape circle (black is holed)
*Pink TShirt in Kids have circle extremly big. ¿Is correct?
*¿Is posibol hover popup show less maybe croped inkscape logo and the TShirt texture?
*The amount of items are ok but all are too much similar. ¿Is posibol a shop of designs? I try to explain. we do a shop with diferent designs, maybe on inkscape.org, and when link to one show a shop like: https://shop.spreadshirt.com/inkscape-shop-circle-hole or if can be done pass the draw to print by a URL parameter...
*Also could be ok give to all inkscape about screen winners a present from the shop and an interview into inkscape.org about his work/flow with inkscape with a photo wearing Inkscape item.
Cheers, Jabier.

From bryce's $40ish we got $10, from my $50 we got $11.50, so aprox 20-
25% depending.
We can make it higher, but it's not worth it. They have deals for driving bulk orders to one's shop, but we shouldn't be too keen on that I don't think, that could quickly become a full time job.
Martin,
Might want to check out zazzle.com too. I think the base price is a little more expensive, but their range of products is incredible.

Is there a way we can send the project money directly? That goes 80%-90% or 100% to fund development, bug fixing and new features implementation?

Yes, although money is not up to the level of being able to fund wages, it is used to help developers work together. We do have a number of projects we'd put money into as the board (to vote on) if there was the funding and the right people. For example GSoC.
Best thing to do is to donate directly to the project using the donate link on the site. 10% goes to the Conservancy which looks after a lot of open source projects and the rest to our project.

Wow, nice work on that Martin!
Just some comments, from a potential consumer. There needs to be a better integration of the logo with the product. Because it looks like what it probably is, more or less, a sticker on a photo of a shirt. Isn't there some way to actually see these finished products, and get a picture of the actual shirt or hat or whatever with the logo applied? Or maybe the logo could somehow be filtered, and maybe slightly morphed, to look like it's actually applied to the shirt?
After you click on the product, at least the ones I've clicked on, it doesn't say how the logo is applied. Is it silkscreened, or sprayed on, or ironed on, stitched on? If the image can't give any kind of idea how it's going to look, at least there should be a description.
Like for example, I'm curious about the baseball cap -- if the logo is going to be like a badge that's stitched on to the cap, that would make it really worth the price. But if it's going to be somehow ironed on, or stamped on, or painted on.....well, the cap is one thing that really needs a more realistic, either description or image.
Instead of everything being called "Inkscape Mountain" or "Inkscape Circle", shouldn't that title describe the product, such as "T-Shirt", "Sweatshirt" (or "hoody" I guess), "Tote Bag", "Ball Cap", etc.? Maybe that's already in the plans?
One thing I find annoying is that no matter where I place my mouse on the page, it's producing a huge pop-up thing....close-up of the logo. Does it have to be so big? I mean, the logo seems clear enough, on every single item, not to need the close-up of it. Or maybe you could make it so it only shows up when the mouse is over the logo, instead of anywhere in the whole cell? Just so there's a place to rest the mouse, without popping up the huge logo. Or maybe you can't control that?
On row 7 (I see 4 items per row), the last item on the right is a light pink t-shirt. I think the Inkscape circle is too big. Maybe it doesn't matter, since we're not seeing a true likeness anyway. But just in case :-) Oooh, I see - it's a baby shirt. Maybe it just needs to be centered? But this goes back to an earlier comment. We shouldn't need to click on an item, to find out what it is. It should be in the title.
Do people really buy custom cell phone covers very much? I'm not out there in the fast lane anymore, so maybe they do? If it were possible, I would opt for less cell phone covers, and more mugs. There's every kind of shirt imaginable, but only 2 mugs? Or maybe that's all they (Spreadshirt) offer? Or maybe less tote bags, if cell phone covers are popular?
Could we have other color choices for the logo, besides black? Or different color for the circle besides white? Could we use the 3d version of the logo, instead of the "flat" version? Or maybe have both at first, and use sales numbers to decide in the future?
The header seems a little sparse to me, and I was wondering if we could use that About Screen image version with the mug and pens/tools inside it? Or maybe we could have a contest for a header? Should there be a link back to the Inkscape homepage?
With those prices, we might get a few raised eyebrows over "Shop Freely". I get it, it's cute, and I do like it. But I don't feel like I'm shopping very freely with those prices. Oh! Maybe there should be a budget section, with low-priced items?
I don't know if I should volunteer to help with this or not. It seems like I've volunteered myself into nearly full time work, once all the website features are in place. But if there's some short term help I could give, let me know. We can't do anything with the forum, even if Courtney gives us the backup, until we have a server. So until that happens, I have a little time to spare.
Really nice work! Thanks Martin, and whoever else is helping!
All best, brynn

The vast majority of your points are things I agree with, but we can't control the vast, vast majority of it. We can look at tweaking it though.

There is no way to do this. One of the reasons we ordered some stuff was to test the output. But even then there's no way to change the graphics as presented, we only get to pick the design.
After you click on the product, at least the ones I've clicked on, it doesn't say how the logo is applied. Is it silkscreened, or sprayed on, or ironed on, stitched on? If the image can't give any kind of idea how it's going to look, at least there should be a description.
This is a good question for spreadshirt, but it's probably a different process for each item.

Each design allows us to set the colours, but not different colours for user options. It would just duplicate it in the shop menu.

- I think it's what they call 'flexprint' - ironing on of plotter-cut plastic-like material, limited to up to 3 colors per design. They seem to accept raster graphics for digital prints (which then support a lot more colors).
Btw. they advertise using Inkscape for creating the designs ;-)

Depends on the quality of fabric and flex film. I've seen flex film outlive silk screen and vice versa. The only thing to consistently outlive both is embroidery, but that's much more expensive.

I think in the long run we can do better than just putting the Inkscape logo on a bunch of stuff, but this is a good place to start. I think it may inspire more donated artwork to put on the merchandise. One thing that makes the site look a bit cheap is using the same graphic on everything, but we can certainly fix that. Thanks Martin, for taking the first steps. It's definitely cool to see some official Inkscape swag. :)

There not many levers to manage, we're still learning what limited ways we can control the store.

Thanks for all the info, Martin.
I don't buy much online, just for general safety reasons. So I'm not familiar with how these stores work. But I was expecting something like a mail order catalog. They wouldn't sell very much without a decent image Plus description. You should see some descriptions that are used (at least for women-focused products) - they make you think an item is something you've wanted your whole life and never knew it - so you'll buy it. Compared to those, spreadshirt has a lot of catching up to do!
My novice impression of spreadshirt is not good, although I'm quite sure you've tweaked it to whatever perfection is possible. I'll be interested to learn what the products you guys ordered looks like.
I think there must be places online where you can submit your own images to be displayed for your t-shirt; because we've fielded exactly this question in the forum, about how to make the design look like it's really applied to the shirt, in the most realistic way possible. I've seen the question posted by at least 2 different people. I could try and search them out, if it would be helpful, to find out which store they were going to use (although they're probably at least 2 years old - so the stores might not be around anymore).
Anyway, thanks again, brynn
