What's the difference between an SPObject and an SPItem? Which svg elements translate into an SPItem, which into an SPObject?

SPItems are generally visible objects. SPObjects that are not SPItems are the rest of the objects and are not renderable.
I really would like to see the current release than discussing the next one.
However we should define if we focus on a time-based or feature-based release mechanism.
That we could do when we relax after the release 0.91. :-) Currently I am lost on what is going on and where we are on the release.
