I just noticed this new view mode and dialog.
Guys, if you do anything remotely as newsworthy as this, PLEASE
describe it in Release notes AND post to devel list to discuss.
That said, I'm really not sure it's a good idea to make this a view
mode, next to Outline and No filters. The modes are there primarily
for speed, but this one has entirely different goals. I've never seen
this implemented like that in other programs and I think it's for a
reason. If you're interested in print preview, just set it up once, in
a dialog/tab of its own. For those 95% users who don't need it, it
will just make view modes much harder to figure out.
As for the dialog, apart from the fact that it shouldn't be called
from view modes submenu, it really looks strange with its 4 buttons
and nothing else. Is it supposed to be that way? Can we make it more
useful?

I remember that option had come before "color separation" in the Print
dialog Corel Draw, the professionals who knew used "PrintArtist" or
had to create ways to spot colors. Why do we need to print the
separate colors and show the film to paint a T-shirt.
This is before the function "Print Color" in the print dialog, but
then discovered this feature anyone who knew the technique to reveal
the screen, paint T-shirt and install a pirated copy of Corel Draw,
opened a company to paint T-shirts. Many people today survive painting
T-shirts and using pirated software or owner because there is a free
tool easy, fast and support "print separation color".
The "Color Print" implemented by "Juca" shows what is possible. Being
correct or not is what many poor people who need and computer graphics
to create T-shirts or any other type of painting on canvas needs.
I believe a good programmer must not only think about implementing the
"code" perfect, but the good function in spite of a poorly implemented
and can help spread the use of the software. Help, because there are
many needy movements using only free software and could with this
graphic collective and free.
Graffiti, Hip Hop, Artists, Designers, many people only need to print
on separate colors in an easy and no longer have to give up or check
the Internet for a procedure you need other tools, for example:
"Export to GIMP and Split Colors. "

o código perfeito, mas o bem que uma função apesar de mal implementada
pode ajudar e difundir o uso do software. Ajudar, porque existe muitos
movimentos carentes que utilizam somente software livre e poderiam
esta com gráficas coletivas e livres.
Grafiteiros, Hip-Hop, Artistas, Designers, muita gente precisa somente
imprimir em cores separadas de um modo fácil e não mais ter que
desistir ou buscar na internet um procedimento que precisa de outras
ferramentas, por exemplo: "Exportar para o GIMP e Separar Cores."

There is a bit of a difference between "perfect" functionality and
"incorrect". We know that we do not need to get things perfect, only
"sufficient" (good enough) to get work done.
However... when it comes to doing print separations too many people think they have a
solution that is "good enough" when really they have something that actually
makes the problem worse. Print separations are a tricky problem, and care needs to be
taken to do a "sufficient" solution, and not fall into the trap of an
"incorrect" one.
The good news is that we might be on track to get many things fixed in Inkscape.
First is the placement of the color separation dialog. It really is not a "mode"
(at least not at this point), so that just needs to be moved around in the UI.
Second is how colors are managed. The good news is that it is a mainly internal change. We
most definitely can *not* just have random numbers tossed in. Those result in different
colors for different users, or worse, for different colors for the same user from one
printer to the next. (a yellow logo printed onto a blue t-shirt and turning green was just
one of the more recent examples I've held in my hands).
So just like how SVG says "all RGB values are in the sRGB color space", an
artist needs to at least say "all my CMYK values are in the SWOP CMYK
colorspace" and not "just random values that I'll keep changing until my
print house returns the results I want".
So, to solve this second problem, we just need to make it *easy* for an artist to do that
in Inkscape. The great news is that this is the sort of issue that takes a while to track
down all the proper things to do, but can actually be done quite quickly.
And on the other hand, one of the worst things we can do for free software is do things
incorrectly, and have those who work professionally hold it up as proof that open source
can't be used seriously.

Also consider that a possible reason for the widespread use of
single-color printing is the difficulty and expense of creating a
color-managed workflow.
It would be great if Inkscape (et al) could make color management a much
simpler and affordable reality.
+1 for good, simple, free color management!! I think the color
separation dialog is a huge step in the right direction.
