Hi Brynn,
you can just make a second account and send yourself a message. You
don't need to wait for me to send one ;)
But to be honest, I'm not sure if testing this will currently help us
much, because there have already a few changes been made to the system,
and the website is behind the development version.
You'd have to test the dev version...
I think the icon at the top is only updated when the page is reloaded.
This is to be expected, because we do not currently use javascript for
this, but need to ask the
server for new info. It may be
that your browser (or some part of Django...) is caching the flashing
icon to save bandwidth, only it doesn't know that in this case, it
shouldn't be doing that.
The 'All' vs. 'New' messages doesn't have anything to do with
translations. You cannot edit that page, and those translations are not
made with the text editor in the cms. All those basic texts, like
'login', 'logout' and the error messages are translated using another
system (currently they are being not translated, to be honest, because
there is no really easy way for mere translators to do so).
There is currently no automatic messaging to anyone when a page is being
updated. This feature is in development, but might still take a while,
because we are concentrating on other things currently. This is why I
have been asking everyone to tell me about changes they make (and why
I'm scanning all pages for updates every day). I know this is not
optimal, but there's no other way currently.

Maren

Hi Maren,
As far as the behavior I mentioned before, I haven't had a good test
yet. For your last reply, when I first opened the tab, the icon was
flashing. But for a message being sent while I already had the tab open,
I'll have to wait for another message, unless you're....well unless you're
visiting the western side of the world, you're probably asleep. But the
next time we're both online, maybe we can try another test.
There was some slightly odd behavior, in a different way, when I
read your last reply. I opened the message, but the icon was still flashing
(which I think is correct). In the past, when I send a reply, the icon
stops flashing. This time, I didn't want to sent a reply, so I clicked the
Mark Read button. But the icon didn't stop flashing. I moused back over
the icon and clicked on All Messages, and then it stopped.
I'll just have to keep an eye on it. Maybe there's a little bit of
a delay (few seconds) between marking read and the message getting
transferred into the All Messages page?

Yes, I see that too. Probably should be "All Messages (n)", I guess?
Should I add it to my list of changes that are needed, so I can do them all
at once, so the translators can get them all at once?
Speaking of translating.... For some reason, I had the impression that
there was some kind of system that automatically notified translators,
whenever any change is made to any page. I thought I had read that
somewhere, although I can't find it anymore. Is it possible to have such a
system for the website? Because everyone having to notify you whenever any
change is made, is going to get old pretty fast.
Thanks,
brynn
