Another way I could imagine to test the extensions would be to just install them and try them out, or ask around in the forums. I can imagine that writing to their authors might not yield a very high reply quota, so you'd need a 'Plan B'. Or you could just do this in parallel, of course ;)

I think it's a good idea. We can add extensions directly to the gallery system if we want to organise them with licenses, confirmed downloads etc. But we might not be ready for this in the live version. But it's where I'd like t get us to, so we an encourage extension makers to upload their versions.
For now we can record all the data on a normal cms page.
