Just thinking further. I do love how that plugin looks! The downside to using the gallery plugin is that they take up so much space on the page. You could have 4 or 6, or maybe even 8 text links in the space taken up by a single gallery item, on the page.
For example, think of all the links on the Inkscape Community Resources page laid out that way. It could easily go 20 page-downs in the browser - maybe twice that much.
So the quantity of tutorials expected might be the decision maker. Of course I would not expect that many. But the problem is I'm not sure what to expect. I've been rather shocked at the popularity of the new forum. So possibly having tutorials on the website would be more popular than I expect too?
Just a couple more thoughts :-) Still pondering....

Hi Martin,
Yeah, I'm not sure what I did wrong with setting up the page. I could not find the normal page template. It only shows me Front Body, and Column 1, 2 and 3 templates. Thanks for fixing it.
What gallery plugins do you mean? In the editor, I can see about 6 plugins, but none of them use the word "gallery". Maybe I'll make another non-published page, just to try things (without risking what I've already done).
Hhmm, for some of those plugins, it tells me I don't have permission to use them. Can you show me an example of what you mean? I mean, are there instances where they are already in use, so I can see them?

Thanks, brynn

Hi brynn,
I've fixed the page so it's a normal page now.
You can think about using the gallery plugins to show tutorial categories on the page. I recommend collecting together youtube videos and submitting them all (just the youtube links) into galleries. These would allow us to recommend good youtube channels to go to for tutorials.
Let me know if you need guidence on how to set this up.

Hi Friends,
I've made a proposed new page which introduces something new for the website, which is new official tutorials. The page pretty much explains everything. For those who have website editing access, you can see the proposed new page here: https://inkscape.org/tutorials-proposed/?edit&language=en
For those who don't have editing access, the page gives guidelines for the tutorials that would be acceptable, and invites contributors. I would also contact all the tutorial authors which I've found while creating Inkscape Community's big listings of tutorials (https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php).%C2%A0 And there would either be a new channel in the chatroom for discussing these tutorials...or maybe we would just use the Documentation channel. (I'm not sure.)
Generally my idea is that authors would submit tutorials, which I, or anyone else who might be interested, would review, to make sure they meet the guidelines. The tutorials must carry the CC-BY-SA or equivalent license, which would allow the community to edit them, if they ever needed editing in the future.
Exactly how they get on the website is not set in stone yet. Currently my thought is that I would type them in myself. If the feature were to become too popular, we might have to go to the proverbial "plan b". Or possibly we could use the gallery, except it would require authors to create PDF files. If we used the gallery, we would not need the license. On the other hand, we would not be able to update the tutorials as needed.
Anyway, questions and comments are welcome.
Thanks,
brynn
