Greetings and questions about Inkscape Beginners' Guide
Hello,
Greetings! I'm Wen-Wei Kao (web handle ltlnx) from Taichung, Taiwan. I would love to contribute to translating the Inkscape Beginners' Guide to Chinese, however I'm not sure what's the procedure of translating the guide into a new language. Should I fork the repo and start translating directly, or are there other ways of doing it? Thanks in advance.
(Apologies if this should belong in the inkscape-translators mailing list, I saw inkscape-docs as the only referenced list in the README and decided to post here)
Cheers, ltlnx
Hi ltlnx,
welcome! I'm Maren (web handle Moini), the initiator and current maintainer of the Beginner's Guide.
When I started the Guide, I've looked into how translation works on Readthedocs, I think it said something about making different branches.
I don't have time yet to investigate the details again – would you be able to look into this before you start, so we can get it set up properly?
Note that the Guide itself could also benefit from being updated to Inkscape 1.3, if that is something you could imagine checking - I know that while translating, one usually finds things that don't work or don't seem correct. Maybe we could do this in a team effort - someone tests, someone fixes (could be you, or me, or someone else), and then (maybe the testing person) someone translates.
What do you think about this?
Kind Regards Maren

Hi Moini, thanks for your reply!

No problem. There seems to be multiple ways of managing translations though, I'll look into it.

Sounds great to me! By the way, where do you usually talk about changes in the guide? Is it on this mailing list or other chat services?
Cheers, ltlnx

- Oh, that's nice! Thank you. Please let us know what you find out.

- We've traditionally been using issues on GitLab to talk about specific things that fit the simple 'title'-'description'-'suggested fix'-theme, and the documentation chat channel could be used to talk about more general or complex stuff.

(there's a bit of work for me to catch up with, might take a bit until I reply. Others will probably be more likely to join in in the chat channel.)
Kind Regards, Maren
