Hello everyone,
I'm new in this mailing list, and a big fan of Inkscape since a few months. I use it to draw comics, and also to draw big non-pixelized picture that I print thereafter. I'm an average user in terms of skills.
I'd like to help with the french<->english translation of the user manual, so I'll try to figure out how SVN works first and then I'll start to read the already impressive work you've done on the manual and see what I can add or fix.
See you and keep up the good work !

Hello again Pierre,
please to see you here. you told me about your IRC pseudo : mine is pygmee.
as a visual editor i also use Gedit, but if you like KDE, kate is also a good choice, it has many nice xml feature such as tag completion or open-end tag highlighting. I find dedicated tool such as conglomerate much to restrictive and slow. I know you do some work on windows. In this case, you may use some XML-notepad, or xmlmindEditor (but i guess they are not open source)
Svn is very easy on Linux. You just have to get "subversion" package installed from synaptic (or apt-get if you prefer). Then create a directory somewhere, i do call it "sources" or "SVN". then go inside (from xterm "cd /pathtouyourdirectory"). Then use these commands :
svn co https://inkscape.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/inkscape/user_manual/trunk user_manual
and you have the last state of the documentation at home in a "user_manual" directory.
Once you've made this, you can do changes and send a patch . To know more : read here : http://inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/WorkingWithSVN
and tell if you have troubles.
