Re: [Inkscape-docs] Inkscape-docs Digest, Vol 22, Issue 2
Hello, I'm still here and still willing to do the new responsive version of the website – unfortunately my work is bogging me down right through to my weekends at the moment :-( But as soon as my time frees up a little bit, I'll be back to help out! Sorry about that...
Have you had any news from the other designer, Mathew? Have there been any evolutions since I've been away (features, content, contstraints, people...)?
If you like we can prepare a plan of attack based on current needs and priority items, so that I can get started straight away as soon as I can dedicate time to it (I think in about a month's time). Kind regards,Hine

Hi Brynn,
We have a couple of designers involved, alas they seem to have gotten busy. If a grand-design becomes available at some point, the website can implement it; but for now the website has great feedback on style, layout and professionalism and the focus for the web team is on functionality and stability in this phase.
(improving the design of some pages is still important as they're still being developed with the features)

Well I don't understand enough about how the website works, to know what font I'm supposed to be seeing. But I thought in general that websites are set up so that if someone doesn't have that font installed, either there's some kind of script (or something) that provides it for me, or I see the fallback font.
I don't know what font I'm actually seeing. I do know that I'd like to see some better styles than what I actually see. But maybe I'm not seeing the correct font??

Hi Friends, Has anyone else ever noticed how all the capital letters M, on the website, look like they were typed with a typewriter whose M key has a weak spring? See attachments. I guess that must be something to do with the font?
The site doesn't look like that to me. Perhaps something is wrong with that font on your system?
Bryce
I guess most people would never notice it. But ever since I noticed it, I can't seem to ignore it! Anyway, a while ago there was some talk about making a new site, with responsive design, and I had some wishes for different text/heading styles, and a few other things. I'm just curious if anything is happening with that?
Thanks, brynn
Hi Hinerangi,
sorry for the late reply, we were a little busy with some other issues...
Good to know you're still there :) We welcome every piece of help you can give. We did not hear from Mathew, no. I think I tried to contact him some time ago... Maybe he's less busy now? You could just drop him a message, so he can see if he can make it in line with your timing.
The current 'evolutions' are focused on making the backend work again after a big update of the django and django-cms versions, which left the database in a regrettable state, and on making sure that any future regressions in functionality will be detected early.
There has been some work on making a 'Releases' (Download) page, which also has some really nice design by Jabier. It's not yet ready, and currently not primary focus, though. There's also a 'Tags' feature, but it is not in use, and not tested thoroughly (as far as I know). A plugin for donations is under development, but might need some polishing and maybe some extra functionality later on.
So there are lots and lots of places where things need to be done. I think Martin had asked if someone could do a review of the current design of the user profile pages, when we last talked about design. Would this make sense to you, or would you prefer to do things 'from scratch'?
But maybe Martin has other ideas? We didn't talk about design for a long time ;) - and I'm the least 'professional' in this little group here.
Btw. I noticed that the sourceforge mailing list digests were sometimes very unreliable - they can take weeks (!) to arrive, because they collect a set of messages before they are sent. Maybe it's better you switch to the non-digest version? The volume of this list is not too high...
Kind regards, Maren

Dear Hine,
I've been working with bootstrap for responsive design and the django plugin django-boostrap is a very interesting intergration. I should be more able to help you implement this design if it's based on boostrap than before.
Please let me know which is most interesting for you to work on. This sounds counter to what I said before, so it is still true that app pages could do with design attention and your design work would be most welcome there.
Best Regards, Martin Owens
