Please prioritize 1.0.x branch for interface translations
Hi all,
just a quick note: We've recently created a git branch for the 1.0.x release series (this will become Inkscape 1.0 and potential future dot releases like 1.0.1).
For your translations please prioritize this branch (as that's what users will see in Inkscape 1.0).
We'll continue to cherry-pick translation updates into master branch ("bleeding edge") for some time, but the branches will diverge eventually, so you'll have to submit translation updates for master branch separately again in the near future.
To summarize, the currently active branches (direct links to po folder included) are:
* *master* - https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/tree/master/po /latest and ongoing development, will produce all future versions of Inkscape starting with Inkscape 1.1/ * *1.0.x* - https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/tree/1.0.x/po /stable branch for the future 1.0.x series, starting with Inkscape 1.0/ * *0.92.x* - https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/tree/0.92.x/po /oldstable branch for the 0.92.x series, next will be Inkscape 0.92.5, after that releases might be made if needed/
Cheers Patrick
Thank you for the heads up Patrick.

By the way, if you wonder if and where you can still help with translating, here are the latest (continuously updated) translation statistics as linked from https://inkscape.org/contribute/translations:
* *master* - https://inkscape.org/doc/devel/translations-statistics-master.html * *1.0.x* - https://inkscape.org/doc/devel/translations-statistics100.html * *0.92.x* - https://inkscape.org/doc/devel/translations-statistics092.html
For example we've had some very recent updates to the documentation that is going to be bundled with Inkscape (man pages, keys and mouse reference, tutorials) so help to catch up with those changes is very welcome! All parts of the documentation are translated as individual .po files, so you can take them on one file at a time. This makes it a very manageable task to push some of those progress bars to 100% and earn yourself one of those rewarding check-marks!
If you want to tackle some of the untranslated documentation strings head over to https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-docs/documentation
Happy translating Patrick

Hi Patrick, I'm wondering how the calculations for those statistics pages are done, as I have just double-checked the Spanish po files and they all show as 100% translated in Poedit, but have different values in the stats:
- 0.92.x: 1 untranslated - 1.0.x: 5 untranslated, 1 fuzzy - master: 24 untranslated, 96 fuzzy
Any clue regarding these different results? Kind regards, -- Lucas Vieites lucas.vieites@gmail.com Blog @ codexion.com http://blog.codexion.com/ LinkedIn http://www.linkedin.com/in/lucasvieites

Hi Patrick
Why do we have one more branch in the inkscape/inkscape-docs/documentation? Will the inkscape tutorials have a different set of instructions depending on the version of the program? I could almost swear that the manuals were the same (or almost unchanged) for a lot of years. Please let me know.
Thanks, Victor

Hi Victor,
yes, documentation is version specific. Especially for the man pages and the keys and mouse reference this is important, as details will change. (For 1.0 the differences in command line interface are rather large actually).
I agree this is less relevant for tutorials (especially as they're not updated all that often), but currently they follow the same branch structure as the other parts of the documentation (i.e. Inkscape's branch structure). We might change that in future if the versioning does not prove useful (for example on the website we only keep the "master" versions of tutorials already today).
Cheers Patrick

Hi Lucas,
the stats are calculated after creating a fresh inkscape.pot file and syncing all the individual .po files with it to achieve the most accurate results.
We commit updated .po files to the repository once in string freeze. Unfortunately in this case some source strings seem to have been updated at a later point without anybody noticing (for es.po all but one are strings from extensions, so a late submodule update seems to be causing most of these discrepancies - something we hope to solve eventually by de-coupling translations of extensions and Inkscape itself).
If anybody's wondering how to get an updated .po file easily: The statistics are parsed from so called "artifacts" (basically zip archives) that are continuously generated by our automated test infrastructure. You can download the archive manually and extract the .po file matching your language, that you can then translate normally (if doing this, just be sure not to mix them up between branches):
* *master* - https://gitlab.com/api/v4/projects/3472737/jobs/artifacts/master/download?jo... * *1.0.x* - https://gitlab.com/api/v4/projects/3472737/jobs/artifacts/1.0.x/download?job... * *0.92.x* - https://gitlab.com/api/v4/projects/3472737/jobs/artifacts/0.92.x/download?jo...
(be warned that due to a GitLab bug these links are sometimes unreachable and return a 404)
Cheers Patrick
