Hello! I want to start translating the website in Romanian. How may I do that?
Hi,
welcome!
As Romanian doesn't yet exist for the website, the first step would be to ask for adding the language to the website, and in parallel, to start working on (and creating) the po file for Romanian, to demonstrate that your interest is serious (each added language reduces the website's performance).
You can follow the guides at
https://inkscape.org/*translator/ and https://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/WebSite#Translating_other_parts_of_...
Let us know here or in the translators' chat channel when you need help following the process.
Kind Regards Maren

Currently I am the maintainer for the .po file (at least for the stable release), even if I do upstream quite rarely. I have nothing against for someone else to take it over, provided that I am aware about this (just so as not to overlap the translation work).
Except for this, I have no intention to do any translation work on the web pages.
You can follow the guides at
https://inkscape.org/*translator/ and https://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/WebSite#Translating_other_parts_of_...
Besides the above Inkscape guides and particularly for Romanian (and in case it is not already known by Severus Septimius), I mention also a guide related to graphics terminology as used by GIMP, Inkscape and – to some extent – Dia: https://www.secarica.ro/index.php/rou/grafica-l10n with some kind of a mirror here: https://diacritice.sourceforge.io/termenigrafici.html
(I am member of the GNOME translation team and committer on the Damned Lies platform, with GIMP being my main focus on translation)

Hi Cristi,
we were talking about the website, not about the Inkscape program. The website has its own po file, and that's what this is about.
Kind Regards Maren

I forgot to mention: I find rather strange the above statement. Could you explain ? (in short)
I happen to implement l10n support in several Python and wxPython projects (but not Django, true) and never observed any drawback related to this. Is this a Django-specific trouble ?

Hi! Thanks very much for the fast and informative responses. They were very useful. I have translated ~15% of the page until now, tho I have a few questions:
As Romanian doesn't yet exist for the website, the first step would be to ask for adding the language to the website
Where should I make this request? On gitlab?
[...]and in parallel, to start working on (and creating) the po file for Romanian, to demonstrate that your interest is serious
Should I add my work until now here or where I have to make the request?

Yes. Sorry. I didn't pay much attention to the page because I wanted to start translating as fast as possible and I looked very superficially on the wiki page. Sorry again and thanks for your patience.

Hi again, Cristi,
yes, this seems to be Django-specific. For more info, please join
https://chat.inkscape.org/channel/team_website
(when it's online again, seems down currently...)
or ask at
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-web/-/issues
(and yes, it sucks ... the website needs an update. Fortunately, someone has started working on at least making it installable locally for development again. Cross your fingers that we're going to get a GSOC student who can dedicate their time to this.)
Kind Regards, Maren
