Hi
I've co'ed and then build Inkscape from SVN to test some parts of the danish translation that didn't show up in the menues in the .44 release. I built with the standard configure config with no errors and the program works fine when I'm running it with the english locale (default C). But as soon as I'm trying to use the translated po file by copying the resulting inkscape.mo to /usr/local/share/locale/da/LC_MESSAGES/inkscape.mo , Inkscape SIGABRTS like this:
$ export LANG=da_DK $ /usr/local/bin/inkscape terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::logic_error' what(): basic_string::_S_construct NULL not valid
Emergency save activated! Emergency save completed. Inkscape will close now. If you can reproduce this crash, please file a bug at www.inkscape.org with a detailed description of the steps leading to the crash, so we can fix it. Afbrudt (SIGABRT)
Could anyone tell me how they test their GUI translation an avoiding this problem?
Best regards Rune Rønde Laursen

i've downloaded da.po, de.po and fr.po from svn. Then compiled those files as inkscape.mo and placed them in my locale inkscape directory under windows (svn build from 19 July 2006).
I get the same error as you when launching inkscape with the file generated from da.po, but no error with fr.po and de.po
Another point : da.po successfully passes "msgfmt -cv" and "check-markup" tests.
-> these are the clues i get right now. Will try some other things, and if i find anything, will let you know.

Matiphas

Did the same thing here and both french and german works fine, still not danish though.

Yes and it passes all the other siginificant tests in the kbabel test-menu.

Looking forward to a solution. I'm recompiling compilers and all sorts of libs here just to be sure, but there must be something wrong with the da.po file or the resulting mo.

Ah, i guess you're right then. It indicates an issue with da.po.
Well, i'm going to test the previous versions of da.po you had sent us. So that you don't have to loose too much time/energy on this. Anyway thanks a lot for your commitment.
Cheers,

Was having the same issue with the fi.po too. After I saw the bt from gdb (below) I instantly remembered (sp_file_new_default()) I hadn't copied the "default.fi.svg" template to the share/inkscape/template directory. Once I did that everything worked ok.

Hi Riku
I tried creating a default.da.svg to the templates directory, even though I did not translate the name in the da.po file yet. Here's the trace:

Was having the same issue with the fi.po too. After I saw the bt from gdb (below) I instantly remembered (sp_file_new_default()) I hadn't copied the "default.fi.svg" template to the share/inkscape/template directory. Once I did that everything worked ok.
Strange, as even if default templates are localisable, they are not supposed to have any influence on the translation of the interface...

Hi matiphas Apparently it's not the po file that's broken. Some developer are going to look at it soon ( http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=26572545&forum_id... ), so I'll start translating again.
Best regards Rune
Hi all,
Apparently it's not the po file that's broken. Some developer are going to look at it soon ( http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=26572545&forum_id... ),
In fact there was a very small mistake in the da.po file. There is a string "default.svg" that allows translators to define a localized default template for inkscape (example: default.fr.fr or default.da.svg), and you had translated it as "standard.svg". In fact until an default.da.svg file doesn't exist, this string should not be translated, as it allows the software ot load the specified file (and standard.svg file can not be found by Inkscape as it doesn't exist) -> simply untranslating this string removes the issue... Small cause, big results... I'll commit this change (and the new finnish files, of course) tonight.
Thanks to you and Riku (the remark about finnish template has linked me to the solution :) ) Regards,
matiphas
PS: ah, and with the new finnish translation, i'll also post an updated status :).

Argh! I should've caught that one myself. I even read the note to translators in the string no. 518 you mention, I must have been severely decaffeinated at that point. Sorry for all the trouble. Btw, wouldn't it be appropriate with an err.msg. that actually give some useful information in this situation? Without knowing anything about programming GTK+(mm) I believe exceptions are in use here right?

I hope to have the danish translation done 100% including the tutorials before first of august.

Not really a problem. Who's ganna blame someone that is working hard ?

Yes true. I've noted this one. I'm working on strings (well not enough i think), and will also try to catch this one...
