Hey great translation Inkscape community,
Riding in the wave of all the recent translation talking, here's my 2 cents: after working in the last 10 days or so, finally I finished the translation (based on the latest original english version of the tutorials) of the seven nice default tutorials (including all its illustrations captions) into my mother tongue, Brazillian Portuguese, also "geeky" known as pt_BR. :)
Although I tried my best in this work, both in translation and proofreading, (and I think the final text is pretty good to the novice user; I myself started it to know Inkscape better), undoubtedly, it can be improved, so that it would be cool if other translators consider working on it too. I'm always willing to team up for a more learner-friendly pt_BR version .
I think that even speakers of other Portuguese language variations could benefit from this translation, so I hope it may encourage more native portuguese speakers to join the Inkscape community.
But I still didn't send all the files to Joshua Andler yet because I didn't know exactly how to run xmllint on the xml sources. Could someone give some hint on it?
Thanks in advance,

Hi Thiago,
Sorry, my answer will be short, but i'll try to answer you in detail tomorrow (hu, no today) morning. Do you have a web/ftp site i can download your xml files from ? Or send them to me by email (zipped please), and i'll take a look at them.
Just a clue (it does not replace a test with xmllint, but it's a good indication about the health of an xml file) : try to open it directly with firefox (or another web browser), and see if the arborescence is well respected and no warning displayed.
more to come later regards
matiphas
forgot to say : to test an xml file against xmllint, simply run xmllint yourfile.xml

No problems. I apologize for the delay in replying you too. :)

Sure, check your inbox :)

Cool, thanks for your suggestion, I tested all of them and everything went fine, both with xmllint and firefox, had just one problem (mismatching tag) in the tutorial-calligraphy.pt_BR.xmlbut it was easily fixed.
more to come later

I'm waiting :)

The files you've sent me are ok.
Now a few remaining tasks for you : - place a zip file of them in the patch tracker (that is submit a new patch) - warn Scislac by email (provide him the number of the patch you've just submitted)
When Scislac has integrated them -warn the pt_BR.po file maintainer so that he can link the interface to those files in pt_BR.po - warn this list : we need to add your name/mail in the translators file.
At the end of this process, pt_BR users will benefit from your work ! Thanks a lot,
matiphas
Hey Matiphas,
First, thanks for your valuable instructions. :)
I did all the steps as soon as I saw your email: I have sent an email with the number of the patch to Joshua Andler since last saturday, but he haven't replied me yet.
I will now send an email to the pt_BR.po maitainer to let him know about what's going on.
I would like to know if there's time to get my translation added in the next stable release (0.44) ? I hope so, since pt_BR users will benefit from it.
Best regards,

Excellent. The strings to modify in the po file (interface translation) are: "tutorial-basic.svg", "tutorial-shapes.svg", "tutorial-advanced.svg", "tutorial-tracing.svg", "tutorial-calligraphy.svg", "tutorial-elements.svg", "tutorial-tips.svg" : they must be translated with the names of your pt_BR documents (ex: "tutorial-basic.pt_BR.svg" ...) But they should not be modified before your translated tutorials are in the svn trunk.
I would like to know if there's time to get my translation added in the next stable release (0.44) ? I hope so, since pt_BR users will benefit from it.
I hope so. There are some others new translations and/or updates also waiting in the patch tracker. Having them in 0.44 would be very cool for users.

Hi Thiago
Talked to scislac on irc tonight. He thinks he will be able to integrate those new translations before 0.44.
Did you have some news from the pt_BR.po maintainer ,

Matiphas

I would recommend getting it in ASAP. There's still some time before the release, but not much.

In case pt_BR.po maintainer can't be reached (as I hope the tutorials will be integrated), I was thinking of directly modifying this myself (as a backup solution) this evening. Regards,

OK done, in case the tuts are committed, i've also attached an appropriate pt_BR.po file.

Hey Matiphas,
Firstly, pardon me for this long absence since my last email on this ML. I know I'd better warn the ML before about this hiatus, but I had no time even for that since in the last weeks some problems have unpredictably arisen so that I really had to deal with all them, thus making me to be more time offline than never. Again, sorry for this.

Well, maybe in the next release! I read in another thread that a 0.44.1 version is planned to be released soon. Do you confirm this? This will give me some time to fine-tune the translation.
Did you have some news from the pt_BR.po maintainer ,
Unfortunately, the pt_BR.po maintainer did not reply me till today, since I have mailed him about one month ago. Anyway, I'll keep trying to reach him.

No problem. We are all hobbyists, contributing on our free time. Your work is always appreciated (and i don't think anyone can mind about the time frame).

Well, i thought the pt_BR tutorials had been embedded in 0.44. I'm away from my computer until tomorrow, but i'll be able to check this. In anycase, i have no doubt they can be brought with 0.44.1

This should be checked with the release wardens (i think mental is taking care of that role for 0.44.1). In any case, the pt_BR.po file from the trunk should not be used for this. If you want to improve pt_BR translation for 0.44.1, you should work from the pt_BR file of the 0.44 branch (which can be found here : http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.cgi/inkscape/inkscape/branches/RELEASE_0_... )

Yes, please do. pt_BR has been (well) maintained up to now, and i think its maintainer has also subscibed to this list.

Ah, sorry for my late answer.
