Hello Alexandre,
thanks for your effort and welcome on the inkscape-translator mailing
list. Here are some answers for you :)
At first I would like to ask you to contact about the Portuguese
translation of Inkscape, to prevent duplication of the work :-). The
po/pt.po file says that the last translator is Luis Duarte (luis_asd at
sapo dot pt ). Please contact him, he can tell you if there is any help
with application's translation required (there always is ;-) )
About the Rosetta: Yes, you can use the Rosetta system, if you keep the
track of the current state of the translation's file (po/pt.po) in the
svn tracker[1]. It is because the file in Rosetta is usually pretty
outdated. This can be handled by importing current(in the moment of
strings' freeze) file with translations to the Rosetta system.
I am sure that members of ubuntu-pt team can help you with this step
and if not, feel free to ask here, there are another ways how to
translate("offline"). When the translation is finished, it has to be
exported and committed to the patch tracker for inkscape.
You can find a lot more information about how the translation process is
organized, see our wiki at [2].
I hope your questions were answered well
Sincerely
Josef "cornelius" Vybíral

Alexandre Martins píše v St 27. 12. 2006 v 20:00 +0000:
Hi!
I'm a Linux user for some years and I think it's time to start
contributing. Besides, I'm a teacher at a secondary art school (ages
15-18) in Oporto, Portugal were we've been spreading the usage of free
and open source software (FOSS). One of the difficulties students
mention is the English language used by most applications.
To overcame this problem I've decided to start helping in translating
some projects.
Because my school teaches exclusively art courses, I thought Inkscape
would be a good starting point.
After some searches around portuguese translation communities I end up
contacting the portuguese Ubuntu translation team. I think I could
benefit from the Rosetta platform and the Ubuntu-pt team collaboration.
My question: is it possible to translate Inkscape through Ubuntu's
Rosetta platform and then submit the finished work to Inkscape's project?
Kind regards,
Alexandre Martins
ps: is there someone in this mailing list working on the Portuguese version?
