Hello,
I was wondering how I could help to translate Inkscape in Greek. I had no experience working with .po files.

Hello,

Hello! It's good to see interest rising. There are two more people (including me) working on the translation right now. How well are you doing with your Greek? Now, concerning .po files... Basically, you will need to download and install Poedit from http://www.poedit.net/ http://www.poedit.net/%20and use it to open the language .po file, which you can find here: * https://inkscape.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/inkscape/inkscape/trunk/po/*(it... the " *el.po*" file). When the program opens, you will see 2 columns, the one has the original English string, the other contains the translations. You can add a column that displays the corresponding string numbers. You enter the translation for any line in the down-left corner box (below the box that displays the selected string in English). If you think your translation of a string is not very good or inaccurate, you can mark it as "fuzzy" by either clicking on the cloud icon in the toolbar or pressing Alt+U. This will only work for translated strings. You can also add comments of your choice with the button next to the cloud.
I would suggest not to do anything for now, until we are better organized. You can contact Jim, the other person invloved in the translation here: locatejim@...5... I will send him a copy of this mail as well.
Cheers! Xbcm

Hello Jorge.
U can use KBabel, a tool from Development package for KDE. Copy untranslated .po file (messages.po) to gr.po, open gr.po in KBabel, set initial parameters (about translation team), and do translation. It's simple - untranslated string is in upper window part, lower part is for entering localised meaning of upper text.
After editing, Save the work. U can save work in progress in any state.
After finishing (partial or full) send your gr.po to patch page of Inkscape.
Regards from Serbia
