I just wanted to let you (and any other new members to our user-list) know that there is an Inkscape community over on deviantART.
The official account which you can watch if you'd like to get updates about new releases and such is at http://inkscape.deviantart.com/. Given how you know that a majority of vector art on dA is done in illustrator, the favorites for that account are inkscape-only pieces from a number of our talented community members.
Additionally, the more user-oriented account for the community account is at http://inkscapers.deviantart.com/. This is the account you can watch if you'd like to participate in contests, get Inkscape community related news, etc.
