Should be pretty simple to do, no? Just add a couple of prefs options (one exe for vector images and another for binary images) plus a simple protocol to wake up Inkscape and GIMP when an image needs editing.
I don't think it would be a good idea to really embed those two directly. First, it would be a lot of work and then, the UI of all three is really geared towards their task. I'm not sure it is possible to merge the three UIs.
