If the tooltip is not visible for some reason (It should be visible, if not please report an issue on https://inkscape.org/report), Inkscape also has a shortcuts list that you can view (and also change the shortcuts) in the Preferences dialog.
Go to Edit menu > Preferences > Interface :: Keyboard. That subdialog has a Search text field. If you type "text tool", you'll find the corresponding shortcut.

I use the Text Tool, the little icon containing an A and a cursor, quite a bit and am now writing documentation on how to do things. To a newbie all those icons get confusing, so I'm looking for way to use the text tool from the menu system, and couldn't find it. I know I can also press the t key, but this isn't really discoverable either.
How do you invoke the Text Tool from the menu system?
Thanks,
SteveT
